Glitchy Digital Dash And 51r Battery.

My digital display of my dash readout gets glitchy during extreme cold weather. It flashes on and off. And at times is unreadable. This happened with the 151r battery.

I upgraded my battery to a 51r battery.

Now the digital display is working and readable right from the start. No glitches. No flashing on and off.

I know it's been just a few days I've had the 51r Battery.

Hopefully now no more glitches and flashing on and off digital display.

the glitchy fuel gauge display is due to thermal fatigue of the pins in the display PCB. If you are handy with a soldering iron, if the display does fully die, it’s a pretty easy repair.

MTLian is right.

If you think a bigger battery is going to solve the problem long-term, nope.

You're pushing a few more electrons into those bad solder joints. Enough to carry the load for now, but those solder joints will fail with or without the larger battery.

Sadly MTLian and bargain guy are correct. It's a soldering problem problem on the PCB which will probably return. Numerous threads about this.

Glitchy Digital Display.

I'll give it some time.

I've had the upgraded 51r battery for a few days. I'll see how the Digital Display holds up.

Funny the Glitchy Digital Display only happens to me in the winter.

Summer time it never happens.

Metal shrinks in the cold. That's when marginal electrical contacts are most likely to break.

Everything shrinks in the cold. The key is that not everything shrinks the same amount for a given drop in temperature. Each material has a "coefficient of thermal expansion" which describes the temperature-expansion/contraction relationship. When you make something out of a bunch of different materials, those differences cause mechanical strain between the parts as temperature changes. It is especially a problem with electronics, as the circuit boards are assembled at 200-250°C - the temperatures needed to melt lead-free solder. As the circuit board cools, stresses form between the chips and circuit board, even within the solder joints themselves.

51r Battery Cured My Glitchy Digital Display.

Just drove my car to run a few errands after the car was parked all night in this cold weather.

Digital Display was clear and readable.

No glitches.

Did the 51r Battery get rid of the glitchy display problem?

It's starting to look that way.

As many of our greatest minds have said, "Correlation always equals causation."

Another Day With No Digital Display Glitches.

Drove my Fit after being parked overnight in this current Sub Zero weather.

No digital display glitches or flashing on and off.

So far no problems.

👍👍👍

My display goes glitchy, in cold weather. I found a simple cure, I run the heater output through the floor and dash vent outlets. In about 2-3 minutes it begins healing.
