Stuck Oil Drain Plug

This is crazy. I'm the only one who has ever changed the oil in our Fits, and I never overtighten anything. I couldn't remove the oil drain plug on my son's car this morning. I tried an assortment of tools, ending up with Vice-Grips and a hammer. My next step will be to use a pneumatic hammer against the side of the dead - trying to turn it - or I'll bring it to "The Guy" down the road.

If I could have fit the impact wrench in there, I'm sure that would have loosened it, but there wasn't enough room.

I ordered two new drain plugs. I also ordered a 6-sided compact impact socket.

Probably stripped the threads inside?

I ordered one of these from AliExpress ($28) - same as from Amazon but $8.00 less. I'll use that until the new drain plugs arrive and I find a way to remove the one that's stuck. The $20 electric pumps don't have very good ratings.

You most likely will find stripped threads inside and the only right way to fix that is to change out the oil pan.

That's why I installed a Fumoto valve since the beginning of my ownership and never have to remove a drain plug.

When I get the plug removed, I'll let you know about the threads.

That valve costs $40+, but Amazon doesn't have one for the Fit.

So you lift and slide that lever to drain the oil? I like the idea of the hose attachment.

Amazon does have that one for three dollars more but with free shipping, so I still come out ahead.

I ordered two @ $34 each.

Thanks!

Yes, it's like opening the sink faucet. It drains slower but who cares, you don't need to remove any drain plug. I have the original version on my wife's 16 Fit and the one that you can adapt a hose onto on my 07 Accord V6. Combined use of over 200k miles without any issue. I have a collection of new looking drain plugs from 3 Honda's in a toolbox that I've never installed back.

I put a Fumoto valve on our (GC160) pressure washer because there was no provision for draining the oil - it just puked all over the frame when you removed the drain bolt, and pouring out through the filler neck was only marginally more graceful. Snap on the hose and everything goes right in the drain pan.

The lever rotates around the cylinder part that's sticking up, and locks in the closed position. There's a further plastic tab you can install if you have some absurdly high vibration application, but I've had no problems with it on a single cylinder engine.

I also have new drain plugs and crush washers. The Fumotos should arrive next week. When the hand pump gets here, I'll pump the oil out and try removing the plug with a Stilson wrench.

I think this will be a solution - an extractor kit. Project Farm tested it five years ago, and he was impressed. It's half the price of other sets.

Those are helpful if the bolt is rounded-off.
