2015 Dealer Price...and What You Paid

Wow, after reading this ... I'm rather proud of myself for doing a good job on buying a car for the first time. It takes a lot of guts to go in there and say "no" to the finance guy on things like a year's worth of auto wax.
1. LX CVT, Aegean Blue Metallic, OEM all-weather floor mats
2. Louisiana
3. $17,950
4. $17,465
After the lovely taxes, it was $19k or so out the door. It was worth the extra to get the exact color I wanted brought in from Arkansas - and to get the resulting reaction from folks in the neighborhood and at work.

Check out the Honda Fit selection available at Route 22 Honda in New Jersey! You can count on the prices of Route 22 to be competitive with area dealers through their One Price Best Price policy. Here's an example of one of the vehicles currently available:
1. LX Hatchback, White Orchid Pearl
2. Hillside, NJ
3. MSRP: $17,115

Truecar.com shows very very different prices than what most are posting. Well...at least for the Chicago area. Has anyone had experience with it and found it to be helpful or is it all lies? Cause their prices are way lower than what so many have paid. Or is this just a Chicago thing?

Someone coming from Turkey or Egypt would go insane reading this thread. All of the prices mysteriously hover within a hair's breadth of this oddly agreed to "MSRP" as if all bargaining and haggling completely disappeared.
Where are the reports of "I held a razor to that thief's throat and got the Fit for $11,000 and a free trip to the shore!"
No one is admitting that he was royally fleeced by the old salesman to the tune of $33,000 for that bare bones Honda Fit LX --- and even the seats and tires were missing.
-----------------
There are places in the world where reading this thread would cause one to either fall fast asleep or completely lose respect for the way things are bought and sold in this country. Where are the bargaining skills? Why the complete surrender to this MSRP thing... by both sides?

You did great! Costco has a very nice auto buying program. If they had my model and color in stock, I would have gone with them! You got the same make and model as me! Congrats!

That's an awesome price for being in SoCal Which dealer if you don't mind sharing? Currently looking for an EX CVT in Aegean Blue as well around the LA vicinity.

If the laws of supply and demand were actually working, you'd be able to go into a Ford dealer and get an incredible deal on any well-stocked vehicle.
The present lack of Fit inventory has little to do with the price they are selling at. If it really had to do with supply and demand, we'd all be paying closer to $30 K for our deals.

Hey guys,
I just started working at a Honda dealer in NJ. Was at a Lexus dealer up until three weeks ago. We just got in our first 2015 Fit. We will not be marking up the prices, just selling at MSRP.
The new Fit doesn't have a high markup from invoice to msrp ( it's less than a thousand). We've been told that the reason for the small markup is that Honda hopes the Fit will sell more than the Civic at one point (five years plus from now).
MSRP pricing will probably be the case for a while. Not much to discount. At the end of the day, the Fit is an excellent value at the price.
Dealer fees are different. In NJ every dealer has a Doc fee, which is legal and technically makes sense. But we don't charge any other fees. Some other place do charge prep fees, window etch, etc. We do not. The only fees that should be on a Bill of Sale is the following.
1. Sale Price
2. State Tax
3. Motor Vehicle (Registration and Plates)
4. Tire Tax (NJ only)
5. Doc Fee
Each state can have different fees and a dealer can add their own fees (internet fee, advertising fee, etc). You only have to pay state fees and doc. Anything else you can refuse, but at the same time the dealer can refuse to sell you a car as well.
Keep in mind that if the dealer is giving you a thousand off a car, but are charging you a $500 prep fee, then you really are just getting $500 off.
Just some info for you guys.

However, the biggest money maker is trade-ins and resell of used cars. So always try to get the best trade in value because it's really the only bargaining chip you have. Other fees not much you can do about them unless you get them to throw in some perks.
As it sits $21k is alot of value for the car I bought so very happy with it. I originally was going to get the 2015 CRV Touring model but looking at my lifestyle and pocketbook the 2015 Fit with all the extras and great MPG made the most sense.

My experience
EX w/6spd MT modern steel metallic
MSRP $18,225
Paid $17,412
Dealer Doc $299
OTD $19,019
In mid-September, I decided that I'd try to use the Costco service to try to do better than just paying the MSRP. I wanted an EX with a manual transmission. Long story short, the dealer completely ignored the program and really tried to hustle me, frankly. They had a sales order out for me to sign within the first 15 minutes, on a car they weren't even going to get until mid-October. No mention of even a test drive. When I pressed about the Costco discount, they offered free oil changes the first year. They weren't wiling to go more than $100 under MSRP. I had a terrible taste in my mouth. I walked.
Just a week ago exactly, I decided I'd try again through TrueCar. I was given an estimate of $17,662. I picked between two dealers honoring the price simply by choosing the one who only wanted $100 less for a doc fee ($299 vs $399).
After I made an appointment to see a salesman, I got an e-mail offering me a further $250 off the price, just bring the e-mail with me and present it. The dealer honored the price and the discount. The experience was nearly painless. There were no significant ripples. When I took delivery tonight, the salesman gave me a free set of wheel locks.
I can't believe my luck. Was it an end of the month thing that made this so easy? - Sliver57 in north NJ
