In addition, the voice command button does not work with Android.
The single click works, but that is the car that does all the processing (very slowly too).

What I am talking about is, with an iPhone you can long-press the button, and Siri will work. I expected to be able to long-press the button and have Google Now work, but it doesn't.

As an aside, who's brilliant idea was it to have a touchscreen volume control... that thing is so buggy my wife gave up and just asks me to turn it up or down from the wheel. That, and the entire interface needs some major work, I thought I would be able to control everything from the steering wheel, but there are times you are forced to touch that screen.

Instead of tapping the volume, try holding on the volume then sliding your finger up or down on the screen. That's supposed to work better.

Are you stabbing the volume control or swiping it? It works best with a scroll gesture.

Idk if it was me not knowing how to use it, but i could not get my S4 with MHL adapter or miracast dongle to work in a 6-speed.

The speakers are tinny, but I am hesitant to rip it open and put in something else because I have zero rattles right now. Introducing a rattle with a 90 mile commute would be the death of me.

And I am swiping the volume control. Typically what happens is it doesnt register, so i try again, and inadvertently hit the HOME button, but there is a 1-2 second lag before it actually GOES to the home screen, which then cancels the original purpose of touching the screen, which is to change the volume.
So on the second try, it will change the volume 1-2 notches (which is barely anything), and then you move your hand to the right to swipe on the SCREEN now, and that works a little better. It takes about 4-5 swipes to get decent adjustment to where you want it. Up, Up, Up, too far, Down, too far, Up, Up, Down. Its like an Atari.

That and hitting a button and waiting 1-2 seconds for it to register kinda sucks.

Sorry for being a downer on this thing but it is literally one of the worst I've used. And I've used MS Sync.

I just got my Modern Steel EX yesterday and I was told that Honda is planning on having the Android compatibility within the next 30 to 45 days. I'm very much looking forward to this!

Did they say how this upgrade was to be accomplished? Will the dealer call you? I'm assuming you'll have to bring the car in?

I'm guessing it will be in the form of an updated hondalink app from Google play store.

He didn’t tell me how to accomplish it but I would assume that we would have to wait for the apps to be released and then figure it out from there. Can they do a simple OTA update?

During the test drive I plugged my Nexus 5 in using a slimport cable and it did not work. Although, I do have the developer release of Android L installed on my Nexus 5 so that could have been an issue but it worked the night before on my Samsung plasma. I have a sony xperia z2 tablet on the stock rom that I think uses the MHL standard and will try that once I take delivery. I also have a nexus 7 with Android 4.4.4 that might work better using the slimport standard. I'll post more after I have a few days to mess with it.

Who did you talk to about this? All my contacts and research points have come up with nothing?

I have a Nexus 5 and one of the Slimport adapters that has a (supposedly) optional USB power input. According to instructions, the USB input allows for charging while Slimport is in use, but the device isn't supposed to NEED the USB to power itself (unlike the MHL adapter that I had with the Galaxy Nexus). I found, contrary to this, that at least in the car I have to have the USB power attached before I can get screen mirroring on the dash screen. So all of these have to be in place to see the screen:

* Slimport connecting phone to car via HDMI port
* USB power input plugged into the Slimport
* Car turned on to whichever level at least allows the HDMI input to be selected
* Input source set to HDMI on the car
* Car NOT in gear (PARK, or for manual, I'd presume neutral)

With all of that, I see the Nexus 5's screen mirrored on the dash. As soon as ANY of those change -- put the car in drive/reverse/whatever, unplug the USB, etc. -- dash screen goes black.

That's what the guy at my dealership told me but I don't find anything backing that up either.

I did find this article though: Honda Vehicles to Seamlessly Integrate Android Smartphone Features with Android Auto

If anybody has trouble Bluetooth pairing their Android phones for calls and music, try this:

Go to Bluetooth settings in your Android settings app. At the top you should see the name of your phone (mine says "Galaxy Note 2 LTE") and below the name the smaller text says "Only visible to paired devices". Your Honda Fit WILL NOT see your phone unless you tap on the name of your phone which will change the smaller text to say "Visible to all nearby Bluetooth devices" for the next two minutes. Now your Fit should see your phone and pair no problem.

New phone

So I just got off the phone with a Honda Fit rep. He told me that by the end of the year, a new Android phone will be available that works with Hondalink. He wasn't able to give me any more details than that. Did not mention if current androids would get an update to the Hondalink app.

Just an update after picking up my Silver 2015 Honda Fit EX.

So I got it working with my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 through the HDMI port. It worked with and without the USB connected. The resolution of the screen is a bit off (800x480 of Fit's screen is 1.67 aspect, whereas Nexus has 1920x1080 and is 1.78 aspect) so you need to change the display settings to get it to look normal. I've actually been using my Nexus 7 as my navigation/audio device even though nothing will show on screen while in drive, Google Maps directions still come over the speaker system loud and clear. I streamed music from Google Play and everything sounded great to my ears. I was also able to have my phone hooked up via bluetooth at the same time and take/receive calls as normal. The music volume would be lowered automatically just like any other input. I'm awaiting a CD slot mount for the Nexus 7 and I will be pimping a dual display car audio system. Which ultimately might be better because I am very much enjoying leaving the Lane Assist camera on at all times. In addition you can't control your device using the Fit's touchscreen so the connected device will still need to be within arms reach and easily accessible. I did not test the steering wheel controls.

I tried connecting a Samsung Galaxy S4 running the stock OS with an MHL cable and could not get it to work regardless of the USB connection. The phone saw the connection and notified me that HDMI was connected, but nothing showed on the Fit's screen or played through the speakers. I verified the cable was good by connecting it to my plasma and everything worked fine. Will try a few troubleshooting ideas this week and maybe have to contact Honda if I ultimately am not successful.

Will be great to see what the NextGen Honda Link App brings to Android when it's released, but after testing the Nexus 7 with HDMI, I know I'm set even if Honda disappoints.

Well that doesn't sound good. I have a Galaxy S5 and don't have the Fit yet to test it, but based on your experience it doesn't sound promising. Hopefully they will have an update that will address these issues. Please keep us posted if you find out any additional information. Thanks.

Try rebooting your Galaxy S4 while plugged into the HDMI cable to your Fit. The Fit requires 720p and your S4 can output both 720p and 1080p. Maybe rebooting your phone will detect the HondaLink display's 720p resolution and then output the correct 720p signal. Just an idea, this may or may not work. Another step you can try is find a native 720 display with HDMI and see if your phones works with the 720p panel, to isolate the issue to your phone instead of both your phone and the Fit.

OLD THREAT ALERT....

Anyway, No, I think you would just use the bluetooth connection functionality. You can certainly power your device with the USB, but I don't think android streams anything through that connection.
