Bikes in the Back!
Bikes in the Back!
Don't know what anyone else has done with the 2015 and bikes, but here are some shots of what I've pulled off. I know many were concerned about storage capacity of the GK versus previous versions. So here are some real-life examples.
Triathlon/Time-trial bikes
Went to a triathlon with a friend last weekend. Got both bikes in the back with the front wheel off. Bungeed them using the tie-down hook (green bungee) and the black metal bar that locks the seat in the upright position (black bungee). Threaded the front wheels through the black bungee to secure/float them. (Sorry the black bungees are pretty invisible...) Still had the entire center of the storage area for our gear/luggage. Perfect! I'm pretty proud of this setup. Note, both bikes were 56cm frame, and the bike seats were lodged up against the ceiling. If you are taller, you'd probably have to lower the bike seat to make this work.

29er Mountain Bike
With the front wheel off, she fits nicely. (Yes, I live in Arizona, so the bike is incredibly dusty. Please, no bike maintenance comments...) Great thing about the fit is that you can sit on the hatch opening and ease the bike into the storage area. Nice!

Three Bikes Being Hauled
Before I mentioned that I hauled three bikes (one adult MTB, two kids MTBs) to the thrift store for donation. Even though they were being donated, I treated them gingerly. One kids back was placed on top of the adult bike through the hatch, the other was placed through the passenger door. Here's a look.

Goodbye full-size, gas-chomping SUV, hello Fit.

I use a fork mount like a roof rack mounted to a board. I have one for thru axle and one for quick release. I don't like laying the bike down. Brought my 27.5 Mtn. bike to dealer before purchasing the fit. I also have a 1up rack on back for multiple bike transportation or when super muddy and not leaving the car unattended.
Great pictures and very helpful! Has anyone put two mountain bikes in the back of their Fit? Standing up and front wheels removed. It looks to me it could be done with the bikes facing opposite directions.
My number 1 reason for wanting to purchase a Fit is so that I can easily throw a bike or two in the back and go for a ride. I used to have a Tacoma and it was so easy. I know a Fit won't be that easy but it will much better than my current Civic sedan.
I don't want to use a hitch but am open to a roof rack for longer trips or when we need to take 3 family members and 3 bikes. I have an older Thule rack and the square bars should still be usable with a new foot pack.
