I keep my 12 Fit base
I keep my 12 Fit base
After few months viewed all about 2015 Fit discussions. I decided to keep my 12 Fit built in Japan to avoid frustration with quality of Mexico built Fit. I ran almost 35K on mine just few minors flaws, nothing seriously. Now I buying new alloy wheels and new tires for this Fit to make it more attraction to me. Why do we have to beg of buying 15 Fit with sloppy built ?
Whatever floats your boat. People on forums are but a small sample of the population that actually take the time to register and post their experiences. Honda has been careful about monitoring the quality of the new plant and making sure the cars aren't coming to the dealer lot in unsaleable condition. There have been some minor cosmetic issues, some oddities with the infotainment/camera system, and one airbag trim replacement that only affects a certain VIN series, but nothing dramatic in the safety or mechanical side that would warrant extreme concern. To say these are "sloppy" builds overall is being disingenuous, especially since the car has only been out for a few months and there have been a fair number of owners here who have been praising the car for what it is, an affordable, economical, and practical subcompact.
For the rest of us, well, they're not making '13s any more, and the '15s have some nice advantages over the older model.
No conflict there.

Guess what. I still get recall notices from time to time on my older Civic's and Accords, not to mention my 2011 Fit that was built in Japan. Please give us a break from the sloppy built comment. Look at all manufactures to see what their cars new, and older having built issues.
PS: My new Fit has absolutely no build issues thus far. And you did mention you have some minor flaws as well in your post so there OP, you just goofed up with build issues on the new fit when your old one has some as well.

But in all honesty, these are minor, compared to the possible direct injection and CVT limited life span that might start rearing its ugly head in the months/years to come. Enjoy the GE as many of us do who carefully reviewed the '15 model and decided to not bother.
You will be eaten alive with the comments of "sloppy build" posting it in the GK section. People here are extra sensitive to this kind of phrases because they don't want to doubt their decisions and want to avoid the buyer's remorse.

Heh. Good, keep your older car. I actually envy your restraint, because I looked at older Fits before deciding on the 2015. Even though I know I would come out ahead by purchasing an older car I'm still going with the 2015. I feel like a bit of a moron, but hey, what can I say...paying cash for a 2015 Fit has to be better than financing a Corvette, right?

I hope my GK turns out the same, Stingray. I don't expect it will be the best car I've ever owned in terms of either mileage or power, but it makes a lot of sense for my life right now and I'm really looking forward to delivery.
What I was attempting to convey in my above post was that driving an older car in good shape is generally a better financial move than buying a new car. Since the Fits have tended to hold value fairly well, this effect is somewhat mitigated.
Let's just hope when the crash test results come out that the 2015 gets a respectable grade.

For me it was the increased power, mileage, and rear seat legroom. The downside is not getting a Japan-built car.
I'm not terribly impressed by the car (potentially) meeting one crash test that was invented specifically to cause previously-judged-excellent cars to fail. All manufacturers did was harden their structure in one place in order to deflect the car a bit more around the obstacle. It might well be that some cars were made more dangerous in some other way as designers put maximum effort into passing this one test.

The test that puts a car against a stationary solid object?
Barely any cars passed this test until the 2014 model year because manufacturers started building cars specifically to pass the test. The test didn't even exist prior to this. You did know that right?
The media hype is strong and is not to be believed on any subject. The whole story was sensationalist journalism at it's finest, constructed completely to gain audience and not inform. On every story I saw regarding this, they left the background out completely, which is not journalism at all. I hate the media.
Is the GK a safer car because it can pass this test? Sure. Is it a reason to go running out to trade your car in because the sky is falling? Absolutely not.
"Is the GK a safer car because it can pass this test? Sure."
Yes, I do know this is a new test that older cars did not undergo. I also know that the GE performed worst, which I recognize is a result of it being designed well before the required test. You just have to look at its arrow front end and see how it fared poorly.
However, I also believe that the test is meaningful, and, as you pointed out, the GK is safer because it can (likely) pass. Since I was buying my first car in decades, that additional safety margin tipped the balance to the GK.
Of course, the increased refinement and overall engineering improvements over GE and the rest of its competitors were also reasons I wanted the GK.
I know my post made it look more black and white. Hopefully this makes it clearer.
