Okay, now the last thing I want to do is make my new Fit look cheesy going down the road. That being said....Seems a lot of people have opinions on this upgrade. I've already put the interior blue LED's in the foot wells and that looks amazing. I know I don't have a pocket rocket, and the Fit isn't a race car, or "ricer" according to urban dictionary. Trust me, a fart can for an exhaust is NOT on my list of things I want to do on the car.


I ordered the parts to put LED strips underneath the chassis of the car. It will be on ignition ON bus only so as not to kill the battery. It will not be tied into the headlights or dome light. It will have a remote that can change the color and brightness. It will have static colors as well as color changing modes that fade between colors. It can be obnoxious bright all the way to subtle which is how I intend to have it. Brighter isn't better for this mod.


Not sure if others have had thoughts on this mod. I think it will really make the car look nice. Long as it is not too bright I don't think people (especially cops) will bitch about it.

CT law does not explicitly prohibit the underglow, but you are limited to specific colors that are visible from various points of the car. Red is the only color that can be seen from the back, and white/amber can only be seen from the front. Blue isnt allowed. Odd way the law is written when I looked it up


Thoughts? Would you do it to your Fit?

 

I've thought about doing it to mine as well. I'm tempted but not sure.

I know that car will look great with it, but I'm hesitant about the legality. Nebraska law is EXTREMELY vague on the topic so I'm thinking I'd be okay, as long as its not blue (blue is expressly prohibited, which is a bummer because I think blue would look best).

Its a cheap easy mod, so I will probably do it eventually but I'm still thinking.

With the snow and stuff, it might not be that practical...

It figures that Connecticut would be super regulated. I'm thinking that red and blue would be the best looking colors but they are restricted, ugh!

Can you supply a link to the lights that you got?

 

In the snow I agree its not practical, but the overall look will be pretty sweet.

****CT is vague on a lot of points. For sake of keeping this post short. Long as the light intensity is at or below 300 candela the cops should not care. Now the seller below does not list luminance specs, but a lumens (candelas) meter can be purchased cheap or ask to borrow one from a photographer. At 50% duty cycle these LEDs I highly doubt are over 300 lumens.



I ordered some LED lightstrips off Amazon, (5050 SMD style LEDS) a seller called Zitrades. They come in 16.4ft rolls, either with 150 LEDs (36 watts/3A @12VDC) in that length or 300 LEDs (72 watts/6A @12VDC). I got the waterproof versions. It has 3M double sided tape which I will use to stick under the car. I got a bunch of extension cords, fuse kits, and Velcro/wire ties to attach the controller unit in the cabin, and IR remote in a convenient spot to activate the lights as I please.

I will be doing all 4 undersides of the car with two rolls of 150 LED strips. 16.4ft would cover both left/right sides of the car and partially of the front or back.


***One roll at 16.4ft with 300 LEDs is the max amperage that the controller module can handle. (6A max) One could conceivably do two controllers and split the current between the side strips and the front/back strips...but to me that's overkill to me

erm im pretty sure those lights are regulated wherever you are in the US. those are so 1990s. anyway they still look cool, however make sure you have it on a switch so you can turn it on and off. cops can pull u over if you are moving and they are on. parked in a parking lot showing off the lights is a different thing.

 

Agreed on the switch It has an off button right on the IR remote. Its a nice mod to show off the car. The mod itself I think has a bad stigma to it because of a few bad apples that do a poor tasteless job on a POS car that doesn't even look like it should have them. Then of course you have the Need for Speed and Fast and Furious fans who think putting this mod on their car makes the car go faster. Its those people that screw it for the rest of the world who simply want to add a few accent lights to a sharp looking vehicle.

 

Get yourself thrown in the slammer for that underglow stuff in AZ

 

Well worst case scenario is I can use the leds for inside the car or another project.

 

Started working on the project today, trying to find a nearby rubber gromet to pull the wiring into the cabin. Anyone got pictures to give me an idea where is ideal?
