Depends on what they call it. I am assuming it is a software update. Honestly this is crap, I have found a number of bugs in the software and can recreate them pretty consistently.

I am fearing that they wont do any software updates...

Because Sony isn't worried about you watching F&F on the screen while driving.

Sony is also not in the business of making money by giving their own mediocre app an exclusive and intentionally crippling the system for everything else.

There's no ability to swap out old hardware and replace with new technology on the Fit so that's why I bought the LX rather than waste money on the non-upgradable items in the EX and up.

Well for me getting the EX-L with Navi was to get the perks such as heated seats, heated mirrors and etc.

Only tech will get obsolete would be the Navi system and stereo head. Rest of the tech really don't change that much over the years.

So folks opt for the LX and then get aftermarket stereo heads with better Navi.

Honda OEM Navi heads are friggin expensive and not as nice as something like the Alpine's with much lower price.

So for me I just took the EX-L with Navi as it's already installed and ready to go so I wouldn't wish for something I wish I had. I already did that with my old 2009 CRX LX such as the exterior temperature sensor and moonroof which was only available on the higher trim. Really missed it when I traded my 2006 EX with moonroof for CRV.

Honda needs to let users swap out hardware the same as computer manufactuers do. There's nothing worse than old technology in a nice car and laughing at ancient features when Google and Apple come out with new stuff every year or two. Honda can make a fortune if they sold easy hardware swaps (with theft prevention fusible circuits of course).

Would be nice if Honda would update the software to play lossless audio files such as .flac, .wv, .alac etc

First off, trying to gain root access via either of those is a dumb place to start. Try the diagnostic USB behind the glove box. Secondly, try understanding what OS you are even dealing with, Shell and everything. It is Windows CE. Lastly, you will lose your Lane Watch (if equipped), reverse camera (if equipped), as well as the capacitive buttons and steering wheel controls. So why??

What you need to think about doing, for practical purposes (you did say you are engineer, right?) is this:

Disable the operation restriction if possible, and simply Chromecast whatever you want to the screen while driving, including mirroring your device's screen. Google Maps, Spotify, movies you've downloaded, etc. See, minimum effective dose. If data is an issue and you want to rule out using a Chromecast, a soon-to-be-released Chromecast update will allow for Bluetooth casting, but in the mean time you can use something like an MHL cable (Micro-USB to HDMI).
