2015 trailer hitch

I have a bike rack with 1 1/4 inch end for a trailer hitch. Has anyone bought and or installed a trailer hitch on their new FIT? Any ideas on what kind?
There are some listed that require no drilling. Any help appreciated ! Bill #22335

The heck with the trailer hitch. I will just sell the bike rack. My bike will fit in the back but need to remove the front wheel.

Oh I hope you haven't sold your bike rack yet! I thought I would share that I got my hitch from Hitchweb and thought you might be interested. Their prices are pretty low and pretty much all of their hitches come with warranty. They have hitches that will work with your bike rack too. Here is their website if you wanted to have a look: Class 1 Hitch Honda Fit

Bike Rack

Hey Bill -

Curt hitch.. paid about $115 to my door i believe. Took me 20 minutes to install and I could do it in 10 if I had to do it all over again. Link to what I purchased - Curt Hitch, Curt Receiver Hitches, Free Same Day Shipping on Curt Trailer Hitch You will still need to answer the questions in the middle of the screen where it says "Step 1" Pick hitch only if you don't need a ball... Then pick exposed because that is the only option for the 2015 Fit at this time. It will then come back with $115 w/shipping.

Best advise I can give.... Car polish spray on the rubber isolators that hold the muffler. They will slide off with near zero effort. If you don't spray something on them, it's just not going to happen

Dear Sweet Sally and Cycling Fit,
Thank you for your advice. Since I usually just carry my bike I will try to put in car. I will check on the brands you used. Since winter is coming I will wait til next year to decide on getting hitch.
Thanks, Bill

Just in case we overlapped while you typed your message... I added a link and details to mine in case you needed to find the super deal on the hitch. Assuming this will ping your email Good luck!

Does your hitch support 2 bikes without needing any additional support? I thought I read something that bolt on hitch requires some kind of support strap connected to gap between top of hatch door and roof. Your reply pinged my email. Thanks, Bill

The hitch doesn't need anything. It's a simple bolt up and go. There is only one bolt per side at the so called frame. Then the main mount is a u-bolt that goes around the rear tow point. That u-bolt does all the work and its attached to maybe the strongest point of the entire car. My rack is built for three bikes.

Also... If you take the rack part number and go to Curt's website, you can look at the pdf file, install instructions. It's very sturdy and I would never worry. I've towed a lot behind previously owned trucks. I have full faith that this is a robust setup. Hope this helps!

I'll second not needing any straps for a second bike. Ran a similar setup on my 2010 without any issues.

Don't put your bike inside the car... that's a pain in the ass and you will ding up the interior. Get a hitch and a bike rack... please...

Everything you need to know about a hitch is in this thread:

Good Job, I was able to copy this and see what is needed. I measured the end of bike rack that goes in hitch. It measures 1 1/8". I will contact Curt MFG to see about proper size. I do have an extension that will move the rack about 6 inches farther from car. Need to find my torque wrench or borrow one from auto parts store. Thanks!!
ALSO THANKS TO EX-MA HOLE AND Fat Man for their advice here.

I will let you know how this turns out.

I ordered the CURT hitch today from Auto Accessories Garage. I could not order directly from website, had to call them. Holly was very helpful, I asked for my senior citizen discount (sometimes that works) they have none, but since I was prior customer Holly talked to her boss and they knocked off $5, so cost was $110 delivered.
In reading reviews on 2015 FIT installation, one person commented he had to bend muffler hangers because hitch hit muffler and made noise. Using red Loctite was also suggested and lube to help get hangers off.
Thanks again to my friends here for their help and advice. I will let you know how the install goes. My local U Haul , who I had put previous hitches on my cars, wanted $236 for hitch installed. Special thanks to cycling fit, had right part numbers that made looking easier.

Of course with the hitch and rack you get all the munge kicked up by the car on your bike. Get caught driving in a little rain shower and you've got a couple of hours of cleaning as the "mist" of road grunge coats everything!

I thought that I would avoid this with a roof rack (my recumbent is too long for a crossways rack in any case). No munge, but lots of bug hits.

I just ride my bike in daylight and on dry days, preferably sunshine. I even leave the car at home if I don't need to go out in rain or snow. Being retired helps! Living in St Louis area and not far from FERGUSON I don't go out after dark except for something worthwhile, such as monthly poker nite.

MPG Loss?

Any thought on MPG loss if you are running a roof rack? I used to have a roof rack on my beloved Dodge Neon and with bikes on the roof on the interstate at 75mph, I would get city fuel economy... Maybe 25ish instead of 35ish..

So far I have two interstate trips with bikes on the back and I'm losing about 5mpg driving about 74mph. Last trip highway mpg for about 110 miles was 32mph. My rack pictured in a previous post does allow maybe 10 inches of wheel to stick out on both sides of the car. This is likely a pretty big deal....

My .02 cents on roof racks.. Thanks!

I got my CURT hitch on Sat. Today warm so I installed hitch, by myself. Took about 1 hour. Started by crawling underneath bumper with spray bottle of water and dishwash soap. NO ROOM!. Got my ramps from basement, they raise car about 8 inches. Plenty of room. Got first muffler rubber grommet holder loose and thought I got second one (top one) After about 10 minutes of trying to pull muffler down I realized the top was still attached. After a spray and pry, muffler came down. Following the instructions, I am not used to thinking so much, the rest of install was uneventful. I tried to put some medium weight thread lock on bolts, not real successful.
Put bike rack and bike on went to lake for ride. The hitch looks and works great. Thanks to all of you who convinced to get this rack. I took picture, need to load pic on PC and figure out how to post it here. Bill

I dug pretty hard on Amazon and couldn't beat the direction that both BIllBOGEY and I took. At my door for $115 and BILLBOGEY got them to $110 by being a repeat customer. Might be good to share a link though if you found one better on Amazon. I'm a PRIME member so I do like Amazon
