Low Speed Noisy Engine?

Is it just me, or is the engine extremely noisy at low RPM/Speed?

This is a function of direct injection which causes a kind of loud clicking sound. Think of it as the worlds quietest and most refined diesel.

All new cars will soon be direct injected for economy/power reasons.

It depends on what noise you hear. It could be the valves clicking. Plenty of engines are out of spec from the factory.
The dealership can do a valve clearance check under warranty.

How would I know what this should sound like, and is valve clicking dangerous?

You could compare the engine sound of your car with engines of other new cars on the lot.
You can also use stethoscope or a long screw driver, to isolate the area where the sound is the loudest. If the sound clearly comes from under the valve cover, it's likely the valves. The valvetrain noise will be present at different engine speeds.

As to how dangerous it is, it depends on how badly they are out of spec. At the very worst, the engine can get major damage by having the valves bunt up. The least - is annoying noise and reduces power and efficiency.
I hear that too tight is worse than too loose but I would not want either.

Good luck. There is plenty on info online about the valve train noise and the effects of valves being out of clearance specs.
Good luck, most likely your car is just making a normal sound. You can post a video and people will be able to give you a more substantiated feedback.

I'll do the video thing as well, maybe y'all can tell me if it's the normal clicking noise or valves.

I took my car to the dealer because of th exact same noise. The tech guy came, opened the hood and told me it's the DI.
