Brake failure...

So I almost rear-ended a car on a red light. I was on my brakes and the Fit out of the blue moved forward so I had to slam on the brakes. I am not sure what happened but I will be taking it to the dealer.

That definitely sounds very strange and unsettling and I am sorry that you were nearly in an accident! Though I will say your description of what happened is a little vague. Were you slowing downs, or were you stopped completely and pressing the break and then the car moved? Did it lurch forward or just sort of creep? Are you positive that you had enough pressure on the pedal? CVT or M/T?

I can hear the "we couldn't reproduce the problem" already.

I was on a complete stop on my brakes waiting for the light to change. And the car started moving forward (no lurch). This is an LX CTV.

Is it possible the floor mat got over the bottom of the accelerator pedal while still being under the brake pedal? Are your floor mats twist-locked down on both sides near the seat? Did you immediately bump the shifter from Drive to Neutral? If so, did the engine rev?

I released the brakes and slammed it one more time and the car stopped. My mats were not stuck because I checked (first thing I checked). I didn't shift to neutral. I think I will monitor this one more time because I cannot reproduce it and the dealer won't be able to either.

It's great you didn't rear end the car in front of you. I recommend bumping into neutral (for an auto... depressing the clutch for a manual) for uncommanded acceleration, and applying the hand brake when the foot brake isn't doing the job. Turning the key off can cause loss of power steering, so that's not always a good choice.

plee82,

Sorry to hear about this. We're glad nothing serious happened. We do want to have your vehicle inspected at a local authorized Honda dealership for a diagnosis. If you'd like us to assist you, please private message us with your full name, VIN, mileage, and dealer so we can better assist you.

Thank you,

Jonathan
