Reading light issue

When the main cabin light in the Fit is on and it is turned off, the reading lights in the front seat flash. This is especially noticeable at night. Not sure if this is by design or a defect.

sounds like a defect. Time to take it in to the dealer.

I have to go vaccuum the christmas tree needles out of my car, I can check. So if you turn the map lights on (front) and have a door ajar, then switch off the dome light (back), the map lights flicker?

Edit: I tested it as I described and the map lights did not flicker.

I'm sure it left a nice smile on your face when you drove it off the tree lot.

Had this same exact issue. Did you switch the interior lights to LEDs? I had the Jtech LEDs in all of my interior lights and they were intermittently flickering while I was driving. No pattern or consistency to the flickering. I solved the problem by just changing all of the bulbs to different Jtechs. Has not happened again for months now. You most likely have a loose connection someplace and that is causing flickering.

I would imagine that this could happen with the stock bulbs too. Just check all the connections and bulbs to make sure they are tight in the sockets and if you can't find one that is the obvious culprit, change all of them.

Or take it to the dealer so they can fail to replicate the issue and tell you to keep an eye on it after wasting your time.

Thanks for your input everyone. Sounds like a defect. I'll take it to the dealer.

ONE person flippantly said it "sounded like" a defect, three more talked about a Christmas tree and I gave you an easy to test solution. Do as you will, but what is the dealer going to do? They will keep your car overnight to drive it in the dark (doubtful)? Drive it during the day when they most likely won't notice anything? This has "we couldn't replicate the issue" written all over it. If you do go, make sure they change all of the bulbs in the car. If they don't do anything and say they couldn't find a problem, your lights will keep flashing and that will be frustrating. But it's your time.

Just based on my own experience, I really don't think there is a problem with the car. It is more likely a problem with a bulb/bulbs and you can probably fix it in 5 minutes in the driveway. I was concerned for a week while it was happening to me; I even set my phone to take a video of the dome lights while I drove so I could catch it happening. Then a few people here said to check the bulbs (which I had already done but did it again) and the problem was gone. Going to the dealer would have been nothing but time wasted and aggravation.

You should post pictures! I am going to pick up a tree this week and am trying to figure out how best to put it in the Fit. My boyfriend has a 2 door Civic, so my car is probably better suited to the task. Where did the driver & passenger sit in your car?
(sorry for being off topic btw)

A follow up on my original issue of the reading lights coming on when the dome light was turned on. The Honda dealer fixed it. There was a short in the dome bulb and simply replacing the dome bulb fixed it.

Glad to know it was a faulty bulb! I was planning on trying to recreate the problem with my Daughters Fit when she comes home from school next week. Now I can relax!

Maybe a little of both (he DID say "change the bulbs") but more jaded than grumpy, probably for good reason ... but still, that was funny as hell!
Glad the OP got the problem solved.
