A/C defective part

I am in Southern CA, and the last couple weeks my defroster hasn't worked as well as normal (when I turn on the defrost I do heat, outside air and turn on the a/c which is what I was told to do by the dealership). I noticed especially when I left work at 11pm Friday that it was taking a very long time to defrost especially in the back window to the point where I couldn't see out the back. On Sunday we had an unseasonably (not really for SoCal) warm day and I turned on the a/c. Nothing happened. The a/c was on for over 20 mins and air about the same temp as the outside air was blowing in. I tried it several times and no air. I remembered a couple weeks ago I also turned on the a/c for a minute and no cold air came out but I had forgotten about it. I took my car in to the dealership yesterday and just received a call this morning that there is "a part that 'prematurely' wore down and is leaking freon therefore no a/c"
So....a car that was made in July and bought it August and used a/c on a regular basis for only 2 months had a prematurely worn down part? or what I call defective part? And where is the freon leaking to? I never saw wetness or leaks anywhere......I am really mad as this is the 4th time in 4 months I have taken the car to the dealership for a variety of issues. I wanted to post this in case others are having issues defrosting or with the a/c and don't realize it because its not warm in their location..

Freon is a gas.

Well, I mean that makes sense, right? If the part was defective and you use it all the time it's going to fail faster than if you never use it generally? But yes, Freon is a gas and will just evaporate into the atmosphere if there is a small leak that's not under pressure.

I'm curious what the other three dealership visits were though, if you're going to call Honda out on shoddy parts and workmanship you might as well tell the whole story for everybody to hear. It's good that you post these things, so thanks.

Thanks...clearly I don't know much about Freon...so that makes sense...I already posted on several other threads about the other trips to the dealership..including door alignment issues, the driver window rattling and being loose, the side camera showing the black screen or the back-up camera instead of the right lane..paint issues..paint chipping off a couple weeks after buying the car...the audio system freezing and not being able to turn it off or on or change the source until the car is turned off and back on..the lock on the car not locking with the button or the key and not unlocking with my hand only with the key..I think thats it..

Sorry to hear about your issues. I'd take comfort/convenience issues over the mechanical problems found with other newer vehicles. At least you can drive to the dealer lol

And just for the record AC refrigerant is now a chemical called R134A. Freon (or R12) has been banned due to its negative effects on the ozone layer when released into the atmosphere. R134A exists as both a liquid and a vapor in a working AC system.

Good luck!

90% sure the Fit has R1234yf now, like all other manufacturers. Make sure they have the right machine.
