water in the spare tire well.

To fellow GK5 owners, please take a time to exam your spare tire well for pooling water. I just got my GK5 for 3 weeks and parked in garage every night, yet the water is still pooling under the spare tires. It's a known Honda trait, please get your dealer to remedy the issue before rust starts to set in.

Well yuck. Can you tell where it is coming from?

EDIT: I went out and looked at mine. I had a very trivial amount of water (a few drops). I have been through 3 high pressure washes, one hand wash and some mild rain.

Regardless I would expect no water to enter the area. Now it is also very possible that he water is/was a result of having he hatch up and water coming in what the car was wet from washing and dripped down. However I suspect that a seal is not perfect somewhere.

Thanks for this. I will watch this like a hawk. If water intrudes I will take it to the dealer and let them sort it.

You should take out the spare tire and inspect what's underneath it, if you haven't done that yet.
There is more than meets the eyes.

I did that last weekend. I will check it this coming weekend since it had been raining non stop all week.

noneterry,

Sorry to hear about this. I would definitely have a dealership check out the vehicle. They can simulate rain by having the vehicle go through a car wash or by running a hose onto the suspected areas to check for any leaks. We hope it gets resolved. If you need further assistance, Honda of Canada may be able to assist you.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Checked mine last night, no sign of water. However, I didn't expect to see any in winter. I'll check periodically now that I know it could be an issue, especially when the spring rains come. Maybe it's leaking in from the gap in the lining in the wheel well, LOL.

Just a quick follow up on mine. It has been raining non-stop for a week.

So this morning I decided to take a look and its dry. I am sure that the very small amount I saw was cause by the massive pressure of the spray car wash. It does great job cleaning and it does a lot of time at the the hatch area. I bet it just forced water under the hatch and past the seal. That is not really a defect.

I went to the car wash tonight so I will look in the morning again.

Common Honda hatchback problems. It's usually faulty taillight gaskets that create an imperfect seal, allowing water to leak through. I had the same issue with my EP3. Definitely take it to the dealer.
