Question Questions from Potential Buyer

I am considering buying a 2015/2016 Fit to replace my 2013 Hyundai Azera. I have read through many forums and most of the car magazine reviews, but there are still some unanswered questions I have about the car.

1. How does the sound system in the EX and above models sound? 6-speakers/180W aren't exactly impressive specs and it seems like a decent system would help mitigate the wind noise and engine drone this vehicle seems to have.

2. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with MirrorLink capability. Will that allow me to display anything from my phone on this car's screen if connected via USB?

3. When playing music from the phone connected via USB, will the track info be displayed on the screen? How about if streaming it via Bluetooth?

Thanks in advance for any help!

For reference I have a black EX

1. I can blast the music and not hear a thing from the engine or road noise even at highway speeds. The sound system is more than adequate for everyone except audiophiles which I am not. I am however addicted to music and the speakers are great for my needs. I'm not sure how good it sounds from the backseats. I will say that one day down the road (I plan on giving this car to my one year old son once he learns to drive) I might think about an upgrade to the speakers.

2. I believe you can only view the phones screen when the car is in park. (might need confirmation here)

3. Yes in both cases

I rather enjoy the sound of the engine in the Fit. IMO, the engine sounds quite nice running it through the gears on a hilly, winding road.

As far as "6-speakers/180W aren't exactly impressive specs", I guess I must be getting old, as I find the system quite impressive. I can remember my first new car had an AM/FM radio with about 5 watts and a single speaker.

That's good to hear that the sound system is decent. I'm dreading the systems in most of these cheaper cars I'm looking at, coming from my Hyundai Azera and its sweet 14-speaker, 550W Infinity Logic7 system.

Yeah it would be nice to see if anyone has a MirrorLink compatible phone and whether it actually works with the Fit. Honda's info on the system is pretty vague.

Thought of another question:

I live in Nevada and it gets up to well over 100 degrees throughout the summer. How well does the AC unit in this car work? My experience with small cars and small engines has been pretty poor in the past. I could go test drive one now, but the weather is currently really mild and wouldn't accurately represent how the AC unit would do with a car that's been sitting in the 115 degree sun for 8 hours.

It should be able to keep up...I'll know more when it hits 100 in a few days. A car left in 115 sun needs three things; tint, sunshade, and a dash mat. For the Fit use 'recirculate' after the interior cools to outside temp and turn ECON off. Noisy fan though at higher fan speeds.
As a kid I remember air conditioning being 4 X 60.........four windows down and sixty miles an hour.

Any car designed for the world market should have competent AC. The Fit is sold in Mexico and points south which certainly have their share of heat.

The only car I've owned with substandard AC was my Scion. It was designed for the Japanese domestic market where summer temperatures are typically in the 80s. Honda's introduction of the Element spurred Toyota to export the xB but they neglected to upgrade the AC for desert climates. They later upgraded it as a TSB with a new compressor and condenser. It works much better than the original parts.

How I WISH I could answer this one, but I've only had my Fit for two weeks and it hasn't been even 40F in that entire time. Spring, where the heck are you?

It's finally getting nice here in Houston. I bought my 15 Ex about 5 weeks ago and the first 3 and a half weeks it was cold and POURED every day. It's nice to be able to finally keep mine clean for longer than a few hours LOL!

Our A/C was more than fine through the Florida summer and that was with the ECON button on.

So far my experience is that it doesn't work. I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (AT&T) and MirrorLink is the most frustrating feature of the car. It always puts my phone in MirrorLink mode or whatever, appearing as a black message screen overlay (I can see a sliver of my notifications on my Edge panel when they arrive). It's aggravating because I can't actually use my phone while connected, or turn it off.

The infotainment system shows arrows indicating my phone is connected and apps are available, but when it takes me to that screen it only shows an "Edit Apps" button that does nothing. I've installed HondaLink and a few other apps people recommended. Nothing. Tried "breaking" it and doing random actions to make it work, and still nothing. The best I can do is sometimes get the stupid MirrorLink overlay to go away on my phone, so I can at least use Google Maps or browse through Music when I'm sitting at a light.

But there's hope in Android Auto! I'm hoping it's compaitible and will just work when my phone gets updated to Android 5.0+

Oh and to answer your original post:

1. My PT Cruiser had an excellent sound system. The first thing I noticed about the Fit is how hollow it sounded. The only way to really remedy it is by rolling the front windows down (which I do anyway because I love windows down, music up) I've had mine since October and have gotten used to it. But I've considered installing a new sound system still.

2. Like I said in the above post, I have a Galaxy Note Edge and I can't get it to work properly. I've been watching this forum and other posts like a hawk for solutions, but alas nothing.

3. Yes and no. I carry an iPhone with me, and it displays the information via "iPod" mode, even if it's connected via bluetooth. With my Note Edge, I haven't been able to get it to display the track information. It still works and I can change the songs and all that, but it doesn't pull in any metadata.
