My EX-L One Year In...
My EX-L One Year In...
As of today, my Fit is 1 year old today. This is my second Fit. I had a 2010 Fit Sport previously.
I have 18,400 miles on it in the last 12 months. I figured I would tell you how it has been.
Modifications:
The tinting is really a must. with all that glass the car would be a greenhouse if it wasn't tinted. I use the weatherbeater mats because where I live I have the beach on the East, West and South. The carpets do an excellent job of holding in sand and that makes them hard to keep clean. I really wish that Honda would make a version with no carpet at all.
The Bumper was a bit of an issue. When they did it, they managed to damage one of the clips that keeps the bumper cover aligned. I kicked and screamed about it, until they brought in a brand new card and took the front clip off of that car and put it on mine. So my front clip is 7 months younger than the rest of the car.
Expenses
I also have a record of every oilchange and tank of gas I put in the car. I am averaging 30.96 mpg. On the highway I do 39.9 MPG, so I probably could get better mileage by adjusting my driving style. I have spent 1,584.47 on 586 gallons of gas over the course of the year. So the car, with all of the expenses averages .093 cents per mile.
I did one of the oil changes myself and had the dealer do the second one. There is a plastic skidplate covering the bottom of the engine. The skidplate is held on by plastic clips which are easily lost or broken. When I get a chance, I plan to upgrade these to metal quick release clips or springs. Once you get that cover off, oil changes are rather simple.

The car is great to drive. I particularly love the integration to my iPhone, and the sunroof. The Lanewatch system is great and has gotten me out of more than one issue. You really notice it, when you drive another car that doesn't have it, and you find yourself staring at your radio when backing up and turning right. The engine has plenty of power and if I need it, I can drop to sport mode for some go fast. There have been no exterior issues or paint problems.
My friends refer to my car as the TARDIS, and they are usually shocked to see how much room they have inside. I can easily carry any size cargo I am likely to need.
I prefer Leather seats. In fact, the main reason I traded in my '10 sport was the leather seats and the sunroof. The seats are comfortable and in the winter, the heating is really nice. Overall, the car has a more luxury feel than you would expect of a car of this class.
The CVT is weird at first, but I have come to prefer the smooth acceleration of the cvt over shifting. I also like that the CVT has a better gear ratio than the 5 speed auto in my sport or the 6 speed stick.
Dislikes
On my list of dislikes has to be the in car entertainment platform. While iPhone integration works well enough, the Hondalink system leaves much to be desired. Most of the time it works, but occasionally, right after my phone is updated, it doesn't work for a long while. I really wish Honda would just implement CarPlay and be done with it. If I knew how bad that would be, I would have ordered the Nav system instead.
I really wish that Honda would have made an EX-L with a manual gearbox for fun reasons alone. But I can live with it. The stick gearbox has about the same ratios as my old Sport. And I always thought that the old car could use an extra gear for highway cruising.
Conclusions
All in all I love my car. I intend to keep it for as long as I can. I have had no warranty issues and nothing broken at all. I drove the Focus, the Versa Note, the Sonic and the Golf (TDI and GTI versions). The sonic was a hateful miserable little car. I can honestly not believe that anyone would buy one on purpose.
The golfs were nice but I had to twist my neck to get in and out of them. I am a bit tall. And I prefer the Fit to the others packaging. Other than the GTI
(My friend's GTI. All that horsepower and it is so hard to keep that thing on the ground), I was happy when the drive was over and I could go back to my car.
I definitely recommend it!

Modifications:
- I have converted to LED lighting on the Interior
- Window Tinting to the legal limit in Florida
- Installed the revised bumper per the recall
- Rubber weatherbeater floor mats

Congrats on the one year birthday of your car. Hard to believe that it's been one year since the Fit was starting to be produced for 2015!
What was wrong with the Sonic? Each Sonic that I've driven, I've thoroughly enjoyed and am seriously considering one to be my next car to replace the Fit. Just in case I overlooked something, what did you not like about it?

Then there was the 0-60 time of a week and a half. I am no speed demon, but when a Smart4two can pull away from me then I have a problem.
And finally, the steering felt like the tie rods were made of wet spaghetti noodles.
I realize that it may just be that one car. But my sister has had a bunch of GM cars in the past several years and has had nothing but trouble with them.
Seriously, if you are going to move away from the Fit, then the Mazda 3 or the Ford Fiesta or Focus are much better bets.

I considered the Sonic RS turbo. Thought it was an ok car but I did not test drive one. Was to chicken to purchase a Chevy for reliability and depreciation purposes. They have a good aftermarket though. I'm a part of the Sonicforums site and peep in there from time to time.
