i hate the radio- 2015 FIT EX

i hate the radio- 2015 FIT EX. already covered w/fingerprints, can't delete the 12 presets, etc. GRRRRR. any hacks for having only 6-8 presets? when i first got the car, the stations had the genre of music next to the station numbers and now it's gone.

advice?
thanks,

amy

Amen! The stereo on my LX is one of my favorite features on the car. It's screen is crisp, easy to read, and the radio itself is simple to go through the menus on and it has *gasp* a volume knob!

I laugh to myself when I read all of the professional reviewers complain about the EX and the radio. I just think to myself "dodged that bullet"

However, for your personal issue, is there anyway that an LX radio can be fitted to an EX? The EX radio looks larger in pictures, so they may not be able to be swapped. Anyone know?

Instead of deleting the preset stations, did you try overriding them with other stations to see if it works? A lot of audio systems now work in this manner. Just my 2 cents.

For fingerprints, a soft cloth with some screen cleaning solution will do the trick.

I have no finger prints on my screen. I guess I wash my hands more.

Love the radio.

+1

I also use the controls on the steering wheel as well.

As for the presets just override them with new favs.

I'm sure you can as long as you also have the face plate for it. Maybe you can find someone with an LX willing to switch??

Coming out of a VW Golf TDI into a new Fit was such an incredible deal and I basically bought the 2015 EX-L Nav on the (impulsive) assumption that more features must be better. OK, I'm old enough to know better but now I am committed and I am determined to master the head unit...to become one with it. Where the VW system and voice commands were intuitive, the Fit was apparently designed by the same engineer who created the Enigma machine...but then forgot how it worked. ;-)

As far as the "genre" of music being displayed next to the station, that's a function of the signal the radio station puts out. In my area, signal strength comes and goes, and so does the station info.

That said, I believe there is a setting to turn it on/off in the setup menu. Read the manual.

As for fingerprints, wash your hands, clean the screen, and use the controls on the steering wheel more. I hate fingerprints, too, and I'm forever cleaning my iPhone screen. Such is life with touch screens.

What's with the knob-envy?

OK, I'm not going to say the EX-L Navi head is the greatest, because the hardware could easily handle some software improvements...(which i hope Honda offers down the road).

That said, I cannot understand the gripes and snipes about the lack of a volume knob. Steering wheel control keeps your eyes on the road and your hand movement to a minimum. That's better on top of better.

Yes I totally agree with you. To be able to control the volume using the steering wheel buttons is not only safe, but convenient as well.

I don't have any gripes about the lack of a volume knob since I use the steering wheel controls, but I wish I could go a week without the head unit rebooting itself.

Also, why won't it display the audio detail information by default? I'm almost always listening to music off an ipod. Each time I start the car, it starts playing the ipod, but stays on the "pick an audio source" screen. I have to tap ipod every time to switch to track info.

Which would be a lot nicer if it showed track time.

After a few miles in the car, nobody has to look to find the volume knob. And a rotary knob allows almost instantaneous adjustment. With those silly up/down push-buttons on the wheel, you have to either hold the button down for the right length of time, or else push the button several times, to get to the desired volume level.

Thus, your attention is on the volume adjustment for a longer time with the steering wheel controls. Ergonomically, a big round volume knob is a much better choice. It's faster on top of simpler. I cannot understand the gripes and snipes about people who prefer a simple rotary volume knob.

Smile Maybe a Fix for the Fit

I don't know if this will work, and I don't have the EX to try it on myself, but you might try checking out Tuna Knobs. They are tactile knobs built to simulate finger movement on DJ Apps, and they might just work for the questionable volume fader on the EX touchscreen. Looks like they are 22 Euro on the Tuna Knob web site, but I'm sure you can return it if it's a complete fail. Hopefully they do work, and if not, at least you can start exploring options similar in concept.

That is pretty cool and they are looking at making sliders which is what the GK needs.

Tuna DJ gear - faders! | Just another WordPress site

I happen to like the clean look of the touch screen and since I use the volume buttons on the wheel, lack of a real knob is not a show stopper, unless I was the passenger, then the slider might be a nice alternative.
