Experience loading heavy items with Inno rack on the 2015?

Hi all,

I know that there have been questions and threads about roof racks for the 2015 fit. I am wondering if anyone can share their experience loading kayaks/bikes/carriers with their inno rack, particularly given the thinness of the sheet metal on the 2015.

Thanks!

The roof structure of a Fit is capable of supporting several times the weight of the car, so a hundred pounds or so should not be a problem on a properly-designed rack.

Kayak on Inno Rack

I carry a 9ft, 38lb kayak without any issue to the rack or roof that I have noticed. For the past few weeks, it's been on the rack during my 52 mile daily commute. No issue.
I was thinking of adding Jhooks to make it easier to add another kayak; but am concerned with the sail effect with strong winds. Anyone have an opinion on that. I find the car drifty in strong winds as is.

Out of curiosity, do you think there's any way you'd be able to fit your 9' kayak in the car, with the front passenger seat all the way down? I know someone here did that with an 8' kayak and said there was room to spare... The kayak I'm looking at purchasing is 9' as well and although I will have a rack, I'm wondering if I can throw it in the car for short trips.

I think he's referring to the "skin" being dented by the rack pressure.

Carrying inside

The 2015 will hold just over 7" inside, if you have the front seat back down as well. Longer than that and you'll need to leave the back hatch open. My boat can be pretty mucky depending on where I've been, I sure don't want to be cleaning that off the inside.
I had an older Thule on my 2010 for 4 years, no damage that couldn't be buffed out when I traded into the 2015.
I buy my cars to use them and Inno designed this rack specifically for the 2015 FIT. It fits well, doors don't leak, boat is snug, I'm good.
