Seat cushion fix for my 2015 fit.
Seat cushion fix for my 2015 fit.
Found this site after researching back pains two days after purchasing my new 2015 Fit EX.
Like many others, I test drove the Fit with zero complaints, but after about 30 minutes in the car (hour commute to work), my back starting hurting and by the time I got to the office, I was having neck spasms, and my right arm was going numb. I spent the next couple days researching online, ordering cushions, and driving around town buying every cushion I could find in any store I could think of.
I had already talked to the dealer about taking a loss and trading it in for something else - options were limited to a civic, which I didn't want, and an Accord, which doesn't get the mileage I was hoping for.
Finally, after having ordered 3-4 cushions on amazon, in the suggestion section, I saw the . It was $163, but at this point, I was preparing myself to take a several thousand dollar loss trading the car in, so I ordered it. It's been a godsend. All my back problems are gone, and I can love my fit again. The Mc Carty seat and turning the headrest around has made the car not only drivable, but comfortable.
I'm still considering putting a few washers in the front of the seat, just to get more of that fit-in-the-seat feel, but fixing the arm rest is top priority now.
I never thought about seat comfort being an issue in a car, but this has definitely opened my eyes. From now on, when I test drive a car, I'll demand an overnight test drive - which the dealer offered me on the civic/accord to decide on which one I'd go with if I decided to trade in the fit.

Glad you found some comfort! For me, it really was about increasing the angle of the seat by adding an inch of lift to the front edge. I honestly would like to go more, but for now, I find that inch to be a huge improvement to my comfort for long drives. See my 'my mods' link in my signature for more info on the parts needed.

I still want to try raising the front some, just to get a little more leg room and possibly remove the feel like I might slide forward in the seat. Thank you for the links, I will be using a few.
Thanks for posting the link to the product you bought. I myself also found the seat uncomfortable. I bought the following:

It helped a lot and would recommend it also. I will be taking quite a long trip soon, so I'll see how it performs there. I'll definitely keep in mind the product you recommended if I keep getting discomfort - any fix for $200 or less is definitely worth it instead of trading in.
Yes, a lot cheaper than trading the car in.

On a similar note, I emailed extendMySeat.com about the possibility of them adding fit rails to their inventory, and they emailed back saying they had received several requests for the fit and were currently looking for a test vehicle.
Thanks for the recommendations for the seat cushions. I just got back from a long trip to Yosemite with a small pillow tucked behind my lower back. Although it worked ok these other options definitely look better. My only real complaint with this car so far is the seat.

Regarding a "lumbar" support - this one integrated into the seat's own foam/structure - you may want to check my post in a thread within the "General Fit Talk board (https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...ml#post1313272), entered today, re: a 3rd gen. fix option.
Believe me, I hear you when it comes to these seats. A "teaser image" of my DIY solution:

To add to the seat cushion I purchased, I've noticed that, even if it's a cool day and I have the ac going, my back is soaked by the time I get home.
The material on the Mc Carty seat isn't the best (it's basically high grade burlap), but when I took the cover off to wash it, I realized the actual seat back is a piece of rubber (looks like a section of inner tube) wrapped around a formed piece of metal. No wonder my back is soaked, it's against rubber that doesn't breath.
I removed the back cover, then just covered the seat with an old towel to see if the thicker terrycloth would create enough of a barrier between my back and the rubber. It works perfectly. An hour and a half drive with just the towel and not a drop of sweat on my back, and a lot of that I rode without the ac, just to push my chances - I also only turn on ac if I need it. North Florida is hot and humid, but I was raised here, so I'm accustomed to it.
Currently its' just an old towel, but as soon as I get a chance to go by a store and get a black towel, I'm going to make a pattern from the original seat cushion cover and sew one made of the towel - will post picks when finished.
I just read in a recent Consumer Reports review about the Fit that they found the seats uncomfortable. I find the Fit seats very nice and I have a bad back. My 2011 Ford Fiesta had horrible lumbar support.
Due to this thread though, now I know how to modify the seat if I need to.
Many thanks!
