Question on the 3rd gen Fit

I've read some quality issues with the 3rd gen Fit since it's now built in Mexico. Has these initial issues been addressed?

There's 18 months of posts about this topic. The best answer is we don't know.

Many of us, me included, have had perfect cars (okay I had the coil recall, but my car was working fine). Others have had a host of quality issues many with newer cars.

Beyond that, there's the contingent that finds the front seats to be terribly uncomfortable and those who find them to be terrific; those who think the A/C sucks or it's fine (I'm in the latter camp for both).

So there is no one answer.

You may require an account but here is the statistical data from a company to which many of us report. http://www.truedelta.com/Honda-Fit/reliability-99

Okay so there is not major issue with the 3rd gen.

Yeah, the car is prone to having wheels fall off, engines catch fire and the dreaded disintegration of bodywork.

Crap car, get an Aveo and move on.

Well, according to Festboi, the Aveo is a better car.

Well so far the wife and I are three months in and 6-7k miles and no issues.

The construction is cheap and you can bum around on this forum for 15 minutes to find threads about where Honda cut costs and shouldn't have. My annoyance is that the front seat will not tilt and the cargo area is rather weak so if you haul heavy things, you may damage it. I have plans to cut a bit of 1/4 plywood when we use it like a small truck. But that's what the real truck is for, so not on my priority list currently.

However for the price, I think we received the best car for our buck and are currently averaging 38 mpg combined although I get 42 to and from work.

Well, what's the point of having 52 something cubic feet of space if everything you put in the car damages it? Not all of us want or can afford to own a truck, too.

I love the car, and the basic car has been dead reliable so far, but the cost cutting in certain areas is annoying. I feel some basics have been cheapened (small fit and finish items, cargo floor) to add more "gee whiz" features (lane watch camera, moon roof, keyless starting, touch screen).

I've had a 9 drawer dresser, two wing back chairs, countless boxes and heavy cargo. No damage.

I regularly haul a 5+ piece drum kit, with tons of hardware (all of which are rather pointy...) with no damage at all to the interior. I have the cargo liner which helps, but nothing so far even on the unprotected plastic trim sections in the back seat area.

If I were you I would specifically order the Japanese-built Fit thru the dealership and bypass the Mexican Fit. That's if you are in the market for the 2016 model.

Amen to that. I am still standing by that claim.

I think the 3rd generation will put a blemish on the Fit's otherwise perfect reliability record. Not that it's a terrible car, but it isn't up to standard's of the previous gens and what is expected of the big "H"

Doors that don't line up, misaligned interior trim, loose pieces, water filled taillights, creaks and rattles are not worthy of the Honda name or price tag, and is something that even the Daewoo sourced Aveo got right. The flimsy, thin sheetmetal that dents easily just adds to the cheap feeling of this car

Granted, mechanically the car seems solid. I'm willing to bet that powertrain will be reliable but the rest of car will fall apart around it. So many quality issues in such a short time does not inspire confidence.

What's up with the hate on the Aveo? Ours has been loyal, reliable, and truly a pleasure to own

This seems to be sarcasm directed to the OP about the Honda Fit and does not say anything about the Aveo. That's my interpretation.

I carried a motorcycle wheel home, and the hub spacer put a dent in the cargo floor.

Sounds like the 2nd gen was better built/designed car.

To be sure, the 2nd gen Fit was not without its issues. There was the "lost motion valve spring" recall, the inaccurate fuel economy meter, problems with the heater/AC fan blower among other things. Also, the GE AC was weak. I've had no such problems with the AC in my GK.

Paint was substandard on my GE, too. You could look around the door sills, hatch inner surfaces and under the hood and see vast areas where the color coat was applied so thinly that you could see the primer bleeding through. My GK has a much better coat of paint, believe it or not.

Then there was the matter of the excessive front overhang on the GE Sport. If I had a dollar for every time I smacked the nose of my '09 Fit into the road pulling into or out of a driveway, I'd have a pile of dollars. There were literally places around here I could not go, simply because I couldn't pull into the driveway without grounding out the car. Lots of hills around here, and many steeply banked driveways and street intersections. Potholes along the street edges didn't help. Honda knew this was an issue with the car, and even warned you about it in the owner's manual.

Keep in mind that forums like this are populated by two types of people. Rabid fanboys(girls) who will accept no criticism of their favorite car, and people who come to vent and complain. The many people who are happy with their cars aren't bothering to post here much, I'll wager.

On this we agree ... I'd say 15% of 3rd Gen Fit owners are fanboys/girls and10 % moaner/groaners. The 75% are relatively content and post here very little. I post here to learn things and to post what little wisdom I've gathered over almost 75 years. (If you don't learn a little something each day, pull the daisies on top.)

It seems to me that most of the Fits manufactured after Nov. 2014 had most of the kinks worked out ... except the paper Mache cargo area. My 12 year old autistic granddaughter could do better than that! Hmmm, old fashioned egg cartons?

Uh, they're not making the Aveo any more. The automotive press tore it apart ... weak engine and all.
