Door Handle Recall

Took my 2015 Fit to dealer yesterday for oil change and tire rotation. Service Writer informed there was a recall to replace door handle back up plates because of a rusting problem. I didn't have time (2-3 hour job) but will set up an appointment in the next week or two to have this done. I had heard of this problem in Canada but this is a first here in Washington. He said they got the recall bulletin on January 10.

I asked my dealer a couple of weeks ago about this and they checked their computer and showed that my car is also covered for this. Still waiting on parts at this time (I'll check tonight).

I'm guessing that Honda initiated this in Canada first and now it's spreading to the Northern US next.

My service writer here in Florida said he is also aware of it. I'll have them check this summer when I'm due for my second service. I can't see a problem on mine.

I'm trying to be a bit more proactive on this since my car is exposed to a lot of road salt up here during the winter. I can look down into the rear doors between the dew wipes (with the windows rolled down) and see rust on the brackets.

They did mine, and the outside handle started to fall of afterwards. Bad workmanship

I checked online and nothing showed so I asked the dealer today during an oil change and voila lol it popped on their screens. It shows as outer handle replacements. The parts have been ordered and will be replaced as soon as they arrived. I'm in Boston,MA.

I didn't see this post or I wouldn't of made the new one about my door handle recall. They got the parts in a day and it was only a few hours. My outside handle didn't fall off, but they were sloppy with the grease. It's on my windows now when they get rolled down/up.

I see rust on mine already. Gotta check with my dealer. I am glad to hear it's a quick job. I was thinking this would take a day.

Well...it may not be a quick job. I was told if the rust spreads they can have your car for a few days because they will redo the inside of the door. My Honda shop has a body shop on call for this from what I understand. Blast the rust....prime...paint.

Looked at a new Fit. No gap or raised panel what so ever. All 4 doors perfect. So the question is did they not put the doors back together the right way or was it messed up from the start? Of course the car I compared it to had to be built in Japan. I spoke with a guy who said they'll call me in the morning.

Mine looks like shit. Of you know what you are looking at...

The only thing I regret is that my car did not come with free daily mexican burritos for as long as I own it. Every recall should come with a full course Mariachi-entertained dinner at the best mexican restaurant in town.

For Jap fits, sushi dinner per recall.

Can you check to see if you have any panel gaps on any of the doors like the one in my screen shot?

They are from outside bottom of window/top of door where the rubber molding starts.

I just checked mine and I can see rust. Even if you didn't get the notice, it might be a good idea to look down the rear doors and check. I think I might pull them apart, clean up the brackets and paint them with rust proof paint.

F the dealers.
