2016 EX 6sp Manual Trans Whine Question
Hello all:
I purchased a 2016 Fit EX 6 speed manual in December 2015. It was ordered July 2015. Vehicle was assembled at Celaya, Mexico. Transmission was assembled in the Philippines.
I have noticed a pronounced gear whine while decelerating in 6th, 5th and to a lesser extent, 4th gears. There is no difference in the sound if the transmission is warm or cold. The transmission is quiet in those gears while cruising at constant speeds or when accelerating. I did not notice the deceleration sound when the vehicle was new. Current mileage is 1,700.
I would like to know if anyone driving the 2015 and 2016 Fit with the 6/MT is experencing similar sounds, other unusual sounds, or none at all. Before I press the issue with Honda, I need background info from other Fit owners.
Also, are all 2016 & 2015 6 speed transmissions destined for the U.S. assembled in the Philippines or elsewhere ?
Love the car, with that exception! Look forward to your feedback. Thank you!
Eric

2016 FIT LX 6/MT with 961 miles on odometer. No sounds, no issues with the transmission so far.
I've only owned cars with manual transmissions and find the FIT's MT awesome. It's smooth, fluid, and a real pleasure.

I have no idea. I never visited the dealership, which is about 275 miles away, or saw the vehicle before purchasing it. I had test driven a Honda FIT LX in June, did a lot of research, and decided that's what I wanted. Took six months to find a LX manual (that wasn't black). The dealership delivered the car to my home on December 29, 2015.
Where would I look for info on the transmission assembly?

'15 EX MT here, 12,500 miles. One of the nicest manual gearboxes I've ever stirred. No unusual noises or issues whatsoever.
Yes, my gearbox was made in the Philippines. If you look on your window sticker, it will tell you where the major subassemblies (engine, gearbox) were sourced. I believe that all the manual gearboxes in Celaya built Fits are sourced from the Philippines. At least every one I've looked at on the lot said so.

I don't have a window sticker, so I can't tell where my 6MT transmission was manufactured. My 2016 Fit 6MT has a really slick manual transmission, no whine or other issues shifting up to 6th or downshifting to 5th or 4th. No whine when decelerating in any gear. I do engine brake.

Thanks a lot! Would like to hear from more of you with driving impressions of the 6/MT. I plan to wait until my vehicle reaches 5k miles and proceed with Honda at that point.
In summary, sounds like all of the Celaya built 6/MT cars are mated with the Philippine assembled trans. Anyone know otherwise?

I find the FIT quite zippy and can't wait to really have fun with it once I don't have to deal with snow covered roads, come spring time. The transmission is like velvet. Absolutely the smoothest MT I've ever driven.
With four snow tires on, it handles quite well. My road isn't plowed until mid-morning. The FIT did very well barreling through about ten inches of unplowed powder.
Never had a sticker on my window when the car was delivered, so I've no idea where the transmission was built. All I know is that it's engineered extremely well.

Took it back to the salesman the next morning who drove it and confirmed the whine was louder than expected, we then took his brand new Demo out and it had the same pitched whine in the same places when rolling off was just significantly quieter. Anyway he suggested I take it to the service department to have it checked out if I was worried about it so will do so in next couple of days.

No unusual gearbox noise.

I've bought 7 new cars in my life. All of them came with window stickers-in fact, I still have them in my collection. I think it's a law here in NY that the customer has to get the window sticker when a new car is delivered. If not on the window, they've been tucked in the glove box or included in the paper work.
It's kind of fun to look at the window stickers for my past new cars and compare prices and equipment.

Interesting... The 2016 EX brochure and on line for USA doesn't show the manual transmission available. It seems that Honda has relegated the manuals to the lowest trim level which is very unfortunate for those that like the "EX" features. Same for the new civic right now too. MT Only available in the civic 2016 LX (although there is a rumor that the civic EXT will have a MT option).
Perhaps the OP got the first and last 2016 EX manual transmission, or it really isn't an EX or really isn't a 2016 model year. Or Honda messed up the website and brochure.

My new 2016 6-speed is a bit of a whiner as well. The whine is high pitched and does not change frequency if I shift to a different gear. I guess that means it's the final drive. It's loudest between 60 and 80 kph.
Did either of the other two in this thread with whines get any resolution from Honda?

I stand corrected because I misinterpreted the brochure. The Fit brochure only shows CVT under EX but also says (available) which seems to indicate that the LX option of a manual transmission is also available. Doh!
