Not sure "wot's" meaning, lol. I had the Garmin 'cause my phone wasn't that great, but I have a much newer phone and the Garmin is a little redundant. It is nice when you don't have data, but that doesn't happen often.

That's a Wheelskin cover on there, perforated grey and black.

The glare isn't bad, and I don't have the brightness turned up all the way on either device. It may be the angle of the picture taken, but it looks fine when I'm looking at it. Both mounts you can adjust the angle.

I have a 2009 White FIT I love and it's on the air bag recall list and (of course) no parts due until "Summer" - whenever that is. I am not moved to go get a loaner and all that. Not sure how "worried" one must be about the air bag problem

So, I thought: why not just buy a new 2016. I drove to my trusty Honda dealer today and drove the 2016 EX. nice! I said, well I'd better go home and sleep on it even though I was in another sense ready to sign on the dotted line. She said about 8K for my 2009 with 39,000 on it.

Then she started speaking to me about the Civic. She made it sound so sensible that I drove one. Nice. Bigger, heavier, stronger, and more "mature." Not like an old Civic ... more like the 94 Accord I had.

So that's my question: do I want the Fit which I adore or the Civic which I really "should" love more? It's only about $1000 between them. EX, both.

Also, how ridiculous is it that the EX does not come with GPS unless you buy the leather! Yes, you can download GPS, but only if you have an iPhone. I am an Android girl and I'm sticking with it. Is there a work around to that? And some here were saying that even the audible txts do not come through w Android? True?

Appreciate any and all answers. Thx.
I hear that the CVT 16 Fits are made in Japan. Don't know for sure. That might be better. If it is Mexican build, avoid it like the plague. There it a reason why Honda is now 10th in customer satisfaction. Poor design, bad dealers, lack of corporate caring...who knows. The fact is, Honda has been slipping for a number of years. This is my 8th and last. Consider another brand. There are great cars out there, and most of them good.

Hmm. I just cannot imagine going to another brand. I'm like an apple user in that regard. Someone here reported Mex Honda fine by him.
Anyway, one thing I want to add to the Fit v. Civic controversy is all the love on this forum. When you go to the Civic forum it's all, like, well it's not about "how cute" "how much I love" "look at what I did today" "let's meet." It's just "normal" - about the car and specs and ... normal stuff. Oh my. What the heck other brand, iTrader? Like ... a Mazda or something?

You are correct, the '16 CVT's are made in Japan. Mine has been flawless so far (granted, only 4,000 miles) and I love it.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I own a '16 Fit. CVT LX, with a J-VIN.

I, too, use a Garmin. I already had it, and it came with lifetime map updates, and the mount attaches neatly to the small triangular window too my left, so why not? From what I've read, the built-in GPS isn't that good, and you have to pay for map updates. As far as using my iPhone with Hondalink, I haven't tried that. I have a limited data plan and cell service is spotty in my area once you're off the main traffic corridors. The Garmin never gets lost.

It's like I said in an earlier post, I really LOVE the car. It's so much fun to drive, almost like a motorcycle with a couple of extra wheels. It looks good, leaves plenty of room in the garage, gets great fuel economy and carries just about anything I need to take with me. With the manual transmission, it has plenty of "snap".

That's why the car's faults and issues annoy me as much as they do. It's like Honda got to 95-96% and just said, "that's good enough".

As a motorcycle owner, I have found the Fit to be nimble and fun to drive. Prior to the Fit, I drove a 16 year old small extended cab pickup truck that became unreliable, the interior couldn't comfortably fit more than one passenger and the bed of the truck wasn't being used nearly as much since the frequency of my motorcycle riding and hauling decreased. So, I looked into small SUVs and hatchbacks as a compromise between a truck and sedan. That's when I discovered the Fit.

I've come across several threads on this forum regarding issues faced by previous generation Fit owners. Have you experienced any issues with your current Fit, besides the airbag recall?

Obviously, having 8 Hondas, I have been loyal for a long time. However, loyalty is a 2 way street. Mazda makes a fine car, and in the past few years, gotten a great reputation. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

In my opinion, 7 out of 8 is an exceptional success rate! I don't think that would lead me to disclaim a brand. To each his own.

True but of late, it has been downhill, and I don't want to be caught in the slide. The great ones of 10-25 years ago are a good memory, and I have to look at where today's money should go. Memories don't help with today's reliability or safety.

Good point. I agree with your sentiment about not allowing the glory days of the past to skew your perception of the present. I deflected from a loyalty to another brand after years of disappointment to give Honda a try. So far, Honda has disappointed me. However, I'm willing to hang on a little while longer to see how things unfold. I think some Honda loyalty has already begun to kick in.

Having come from 8 yrs driving my previous GD and 1 1/2 yrs with my current GK gotta say I love them both. Am enjoying the GK slightly more cause its a manual, plus, my sons convinced me to upgrade the looks, insulation and a ton of audio and visual upgrades.
Read the first couple of years of threads on both GD's and GE's and its not as if no one ever encountered build problems with their individual cars. But then that's what warranty and lemon-car laws are all about.
Its unfortunate that Honda can't make their total production, reliably, with 0 issues or defects, but then think about it, what car manufacturer does???
For what it is, Fits are econo-cars. The cheapest of their NA model line-up. What most of us like about them is that the majority are dependable, frugal and have excellent resale values. If this wasn't the case, dealers would be stuck with a boat-load of them with massive rebates or heavily subsidized leases. Has'nt happened yet, so am hoping that Honda addresses those issues which some owners are experiencing.

I sold my '13 Beetle TDi convertible after only 18 months because of stupid design decisions on VW's part (windows that freeze in the winter and won't roll down so you can close the door properly; an intercooler air intake that fills up with snow/ice and chokes the engine where it won't start; etc.). Been a VW driver since 1988, and had a New Beetle for twelve years before getting the Beetle (it also had numerous quality issues).

No more modern VWs for me!

My Fit has 36K on it now (18 months ownership), and while it has some shortcomings (largely because it's an entry-level car), it's one I can foresee keeping at least ten years.

Stemb, with the mods we both did to our drives, that makes two of us. Up to today, the wife still wonders why I spent so much time and coin on a bottom model sub-compact. Solved that by increasing her shopping budget. LOL!!!!!!!

I don't remember as many/as long of threads with the GD/GE?

While I don't like how the GK drives/looks personally; based on what I've seen on here I no longer even recommend the Fit to relatives/friends, unless they're looking to buy used.

True, not as many long threads, probably due to the higher volume the GK has, comparatively over the same time period, which surpased the initial volumes of both GD and GE when they were intro'ed. Have to say that with MDM's being a totally new mfg. facility is a major reason for the GK's initial deficiencies, in addition to Honda's sub-par technical product planning (resulting in recalls).

Based on what you've seen on the GK is one perspective. A third party one.
Living and driving one daily is first-hand and being in that category, I continue to recommend any Fit (GD/GE/GK) to relatives and friends whether they are buying new or used.

My wife just spent $3500 on new kitchen cookware, so she's ahead of me right now (but not for long!).
