Its pretty common to ruin a catalytic converter by running eFI motors out of gas.
The fuel injection computer gets radically confused by the spikes in mixture and can result in a hell of a backfire..
I've done this once.. It was ugly.. Basically ended up replacing the cat and the muffler and the O2 sensor from the backfire.
Running your car below 1/4 tank especially in hot weather is really hard on the fuel pump. My wife does it all the time and I've had to replace 3 pumps in her car in 6 years. They normally last over 150K she gets about 45K out of one. 400 dollar pump for her car(E46 BMW 330). But she refuses to fill up till the warning light comes on which leaves 2 gallons in her tank.. arg.. My E36 318 has 275K on it and is on the original pump.. I fill up at about 1/3 tank mark most of the time.
Good Luck.
I must be one of the lucky ones then, my 3 cars prior to the fit never had that problem
I totally feel you man. My 2015 honda fit gets around 40 mpg and i only last about 6 days of driving. When i use to drive my sister accord 35 mpg it somehow kept me for 9 days. Full tank in both cars.

Astute observation and well pointed out.
Note, for many GK owners, it could be their first sub-compact. To achieve mileage claims, mfg.'s lessen weight wherever they can and that includes the size of the fuel tank.
Solutions: get used to filling up more often or purchase 5 gallon fuel tanks from Wally's.
Brought 4 pcs. of my 3 decade old Blitz fuel tanks with me from the island. Good thing I did. Fuel cost in Canada (specifically BC) is over 30% more than in WA state. Fill them up everytime I cross the border to visit head-office in Seattle.
yeah looks like I'm going to run it empty and see how far the gas can take me, will bring 5 gallon of gas in the car for this one just to be on the safe side lol
Update: as you can see this is what I got for driving 3 days in a row, probably won't push anymore unless I drive in the city only. Pretty happy with the result so far
Still have some left over fuel for around city driving

Those are good numbers. If the pump latch popped off at 8.75 gal then your mpg would be 41.4 vs the 43.0 on the display. Still good results. If you can catch a tailwind on the highway, it'll bump those numbers up quite a bit. A strong headwind will drive it down big time. I catch these winds all the time driving on I-95 in Florida.
When I took my car for a test drive, the salesman took it to the gas station and filled it up. I was watching as the pump popped off at just under 9 gallons. Then he proceeded to fill it to the point of overflow and the pump read 10.2 gallons! We're lucky we made it to the gas station because the car was running on fumes!
The 10.2 was just him filling EVERYTHING, mainly in an effort to ruin the evap system with his ignorance.
Not try to ruin nothing here kid, just want to know how far I can take my car, now that I know I won't be pushing it to an extent that I'm running on fumes. but thanks for your concern kid I appreciate your useless comments

Please don't call me kid. I'm not the one asking incredibly obvious questions, intentionally damaging my car...and I don't have kid in my username, like you.
If you read my last post, it was not even directed at your post.
