Both headlight bulbs burned out before 77,000 miles

F.Y.I. I always turn the low beams on during the daytime. I have almost 79,000 miles on my 2015 Fit CVT LX. Both bulbs burned out, the 1st around 65,000 miles, and the 2nd around 76,000. Seems the bulbs have a short lifespan.

Hmmm...I just traded my 2007 Fit with 250000k, and its original headlight bulbs, in on a 2016. Maybe I should have kept the old bulbs?

Maybe my driving all over the USA through the snow, sub-freezing weather, and desert conditions has worn out the bulbs earlier than expected. I also had to swap out the Mitsuba starter this week since it had been flaky.

I had to change both front lights and the tail lights over the same mileage on my last vehicle.

Let's see here, 65,000 miles divided by, let's say optimistically 50 MPH average speed=1300 hours. This is WAY over the rated life of any H-4 bulb I know of. The "high output" bulbs I'm using (Sylvania XZE) have a rated life of 100 hours. If I get a year out of them I consider myself lucky. I'd say you did pretty well

As my ex wife used to say, some of you would gripe if they hanged you with a new rope.

zOMG, Honda should be dragged through the streets, and pilloried for their bulbs.

Wait, does Honda even make bulbs?

The stock bulbs in mine were labeled "Phillips".

High output bulbs have much shorter life than regular plain bulbs. Regular bulbs are typically rated to last around 1000 to 1200 hours.

70k miles or so doesn't seem at all out of line to me. I replaced both my headlight bulbs not long ago, at around 75k miles I think, when the high beam on one of them burnt out. They're a consumable item, just like tires and wiper blades and belts and brake shoes.

My stock 9004 bulbs went for 16 years with no problem. I put in a set of cool blue 9004 bulbs for a brighter output and had one burn out in 6 months.

Sorry more output = less life

It's "hours" on the bulbs (mileage) not "years". Park the car and the bulbs will last forever.

Like I said, 60-70,000 miles is standard or better for OEM headlamp bulbs. I usually end up replacing my OEM bulbs somewhere around there, so I don't know what the OP is complaining about.

your expectation is off. 1300-1500 is the right expectation, esp if you're leaving the lights on all the time. At this rate oh noes you'll need to replace the bulbs again at 150,000 miles and then 225,000 miles.

Only if you had HID bulbs though, then you should be expecting like 2000-2500hrs, but the bulb replacements are also much more expensive.
