Gas smell, AC on, car standing still
Gas smell, AC on, car standing still
I have a 2017 Fit. When sitting still with the AC on I can detect a slight fuel odor. Anyone ever heard of this with other Fits?
I guess I need to take it back to the dealer, and that is something I hate to do. I bought a Honda on their reputation for being trouble free and sitting in a dealer waiting room is not my idea of how to spend a day.

Why not do a bit of simple troubleshooting first? Your AC pulls outside air from the base of the windshield, so check under the hood, both for obvious leaks as well as fuel odors. Also make sure your gas cap is fully seated (click-click). Did you fill up recently? Spill any fuel, either on the car or on yourself (shoes, for example)? You might have brought the odor into the cabin yourself if that happened.

2016. My bad. Even though the smell is very slight I'm sure I'll have to take it in. I'm mainly wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
My 2015 airbag loaner has the exact same thing. Just an ever so slight smell. Thought about bringing it in but then I wouldn't smell it. I went through the car for about 10 minutes with a flashlight and looked for a leak when I smelled it again and found nothing.
Mine does not need the AC on to smell this. Plus a poster said AC pulls air from the outside..... AC should be used in recirculated mode not outside air mode, unless it is somewhat cool out.
Interesting a couple people have this same problem. Post what you find out when you bring it in.

You should drive an old Volkswagen Beetle sometime. The fuel tank is under the bonnet/"hood" (up front), and the filler cap is also under the hood and usually doesn't seal well. The "trunk" area is not sealed off well from the passenger compartment, so fuel odors are "all part of the experience."
Of course, without air conditioning, you're gonna have the windows down anyway.
