AC compressor shuts off when gas is low?
My wife and I were driving around yesterday after the gas light had been on for a while. Maybe 30 miles or so. I was trying to get back to my secret station that's about .25 less a gallon than anywhere else in the city.
Anyway, a few miles from the fuel, my AC compressor shut down. The fan was still blowing, but no cold air. A few seconds after getting back on the road following the fill-up, the compressor starts back up.
Is this some emergency fuel saving feature? I never let the car get that low on gas so this is the first time I've experienced it. If so, then what a good idea! if not, I need to get my AC checked out!

I'd doubt it, on the rare occasions that I've used the A/C I noticed that it kicks on or off once a certain cabin air temperature is met. That could be my imagination though, I'd pay attention for any sounds of the A/C compressor engaging and disengaging. Its easier to notice at night because your headlights will briefly dim when the compressor engages.
