Am I missing a piece of trim or carpeting by the pedals?

I recently paid for a small upgrade of my Fit Ex's sound system at a local Best Buy.

I am having issues with the install in general and am scheduled to bring it back already.

But earlier today when I reached down to release the door for the fuel I noticed exposed metal and insulation around the pedals:

Am I being crazy or is there a missing bit of trim or carpet that should be there?

I want to be sure before I accuse the shop of anything when I go back.

IIRC that's about how mine looks. I don't recall being able to see the firewall at all, I believe there was some wool over it.

Thanks guys I guess I just never noticed when reaching down for the hood or gas cap release.

The installer was very sloppy and left door panels not properly reattached. So I was concerned he could have left a piece of trim off or cut off and discarded a piece of the carpeting.

I have a 6 spd. EX so I don't know if a CVT has a "dead pedal" beside the brake, but it looks like there is some stuff missing. (I don't pop either the hood or the gas door all that often, but I looked this afternoon ... Friday).

Could you take a picture of what your area by the pedals looks like if you don't mind?

I am making an official complaint to Best Buy corporate about my install. I had to take it to a different store and it turns out almost everything my installer did was wrong. So if they screwed up that area of the car and didn't put it back the way it was that is also going into my complaint.

I'll try tomorrow, first with iPhone. If that doesn't work, then the Sony digital camera. Surely there are other Fits nearby so you can show the hamfisted installers at Best Buy.

I was thinking of swinging by a showroom and asking to take a look.

I'm just gonna feel silly if I go out of my way to stop by one and there is nothing missing

Well, you shouldn't be embarrassed to double check, which I just did before I took any pictures.

Yes, just above the gas door release and the hood release, there is that mottled grey area. I never noticed before since I just grope for them when needed. The gas door has a white gas can icon on it, the hood release has an icon embossed but not painted. Oddly the gas door had a clear plastic tape over it, similar to the stuff that is on new cell phone screens.

Guess I never peeked that far up down there....looks "normal." I guess....hey, saving $0.50 (if that....the "carpeting" is so cheap, they should be getting it for free) on each car can add up, I'd imagine

I was vacuuming my Fit this week so I looked. Mine looks just like the OP's car, except mine's cleaner.
