I wonder if the people who are complaining are filling their tanks completely? The Fit tank will take nearly two gallons after the nozzle clicks off automatically. That long fill pipe makes it fill a lot slower than other cars for the last few gallons.
FWIW, I ran mine about 8 miles past the "Range: 0.0 miles" point on one occasion and there were still over a gallon of fuel in the tank (50+ miles of fuel range based on my average MPG) when I filled it. I'm sure the fuel pump pickup can't get every drop, but this reading 0 with over 10% of available fuel remaining does strike me as overly conservative.

Regarding topping off the tank, the Fit has an evaporative vapor recovery system, so filling up to max capacity can cause issues. If liquid fuel winds up way up in the filer neck, the EVAP can get tripped up, popping a check engine light. The advice I have gotten is fill until it clicks off, hit it once more until it click off a second time, and then stop.

I use those post-it stickies to cover up the low fuel warning gas pump icon when it comes on. Black electrical tape leaves a residue.

And, if you are filling your tank less than 11.165 gallons, you still had miles to go.
