Yes, you can fit an 8' object into a Fit!

A friend offered me a new projection screen, a 6"x5" object 8'3" long. The bad news was that I had to take it quickly and the only vehicle available was my Fit.

Procedure:
  1. Remove headrests from right front and right rear seats.
  2. Leave right rear seat in upright position.
  3. Recline front seat fully.
  4. Fold left rear seat forward
  5. Maneuver the object in from the rear hatch, guiding it into the right side footwell.
  6. Rest the object on the depression left by removing the headrest from the right rear seat. Secure it to the seat so it won't slide sideways.
  7. You can then flip the left rear seat back up if you need to carry a passenger.

I had about 3" to spare, so it seems that the maximum is 8'6"!

So your rectangular screen, shaped more like a pencil, fit into the right front foot well, middle rested on top of the rear right passenger seat? The end of the screen was floating in the air?

If you folded the rear right seat forward and completely reclined the front passenger seat, were you short of space?

I did not think you could get an 8' 2x4 into the Fit. I'll try your way.

With the rear seat folded, the long object hit the glove compartment door when laying flat on the seats. With the rear seat up, it tilts the forward end of the object so that it goes into the footwell.

It was supported by the front floor, the front edge of the right front seat, and the rear seat headrest. The amount "hanging in the air" behind the rear seat was only a couple of feet.

Thanks, and good to know.

How many 8' 2x4s can you fit into a Fit? I really need to know this, as I don't want to buy too many and find out I need to return a couple.

Haven't tested the upper limit yet. You might have to be our guinea pig!

My guess is a minimum of 9. Be sure to secure them so they don't slide around!

Thanks! Yes, I'd tie them down.
