2017 EX manual here.

2nd gear just doesn't feel right to me. I know that 2nd gear is a touchy gear for the fits in general, but it's my least favorite gear to shift into because of how un-smooth it feels--it's really notchy and clicky sometimes.

I've had some success to get it a bit smoother by holding in the clutch a little longer between 1st and 2nd, but when I want to shift fast into 2nd, the gearbox does not inspire much confidence.

Curious to know what other GK manual transmission owners think about 2nd gear

 

most novice MT drivers feel this way in da beginning. give ur tranny a little more time for the syncro to work. ure probably shifting the lever into the 2nd gate too soon. ur car is not a sports car nor does it have sport gearing. go easy on it. no need to shift fast like in da movies. even at WOT unless ure powershifting u dont need to shift dat fast.. give it a pause.

Welcome to the newly designed 6MT gearbox. It's been a "notchy" ride for me from 1st to 2nd ever since I bought the car. I owned two other manual tranny vehicles beforehand and I never had this much agony with exactly what you are talking about. I think it's a combination of ECU mapping for emissions in combination with the variable timing gizmo on the intake cam that causes all that delay in power delivery.

The noise I'm hearing as I go into second is pretty audible. Sort of sounds like a click—different from just a notchy feeling. You guys think this is normal? I'm thinking of taking it to the dealership and see what they say
