Oil Change?

Bought my 2016 LX brand new in August 2016 straight from the factory, and haven't changed the oil yet.

MM is at 30% and barely passed 6000 miles.

Should I wait for the MM recommendation to change my oil, or should I do it asap?

Have read things about waiting for the MM because of special additive that Honda adds to the factory oil that helps break in the car?

I waited until 90%. The oil in a new car is slightly lighter and better for breaking in your new car. I would wait. The first oil change also does not require a change of oil filter, but many people change it anyway.

I'd wait unless you prefer throwing out perfectly good oil

Personally I run mobil 1 and change it at 7500 miles. Might take me a couple years to get that many miles. Honda states once per year or at 15% on the MM.

Yeah, my Honda dealer quoted the 15% on the MM as well .....wtf, why not make 15% readout 0%??? Gimmicky, but I guess useful for those folks who need to be prodded/reminded to do maint on their cars

As I was given to understand, only the first oil change should be at 15%. After that you can run it to zero if you want.

As as for me, I change the oil at 20%. Since I drive like the old man I am, that happens around 9,000 miles or so. I figure that's far enough. I use Honda 0W-20 synthetic.

The previous owner's manuals said the car has break-in oil so not to change it early.
But the current manual doesn't say that. I haven't been able to get it confirmed that they no longer use special break-in oil. No other company seems to.

There's nothing special about 15%. That's just where the car starts to remind you (or nag you, if you prefer to call it that).

just change it when the wrench icon pops up.. or when it gets to about August.

ive run one of my previous cars down -500 and it was perfectly fine as it was running synthetic oil.

What do you mean by -500?

We bought our "used" 2016 Fit middle of 2016 but it had been placed in service for running dealership errands early 2016. I figured March 2017 was about a year in service and I called the dealership asking if they had changed the oil before selling it to us last July ("no"). So I asked if we should get the oil changed since it had been in service for about a year, even though it only had a total of 4000 miles on it and still said 60% life. The guy in the Honda service department said yes.

after the obc goes past 0% it starts logging miles. -500 means 500 miles past 0%.

I recently contacted Honda tech support, and they confirmed that for my 2018 Fit? the factory fill oil is NOT a special break-in oil. It is a 0W20 synthetic blend, identical to what the dealer will use when they do an oil change. I don't know if this is the case for older model Fits

My dealership doesn’t use blend anymore but full synthetic. I drive mine under severe conditions so as not to screw up my engine, I change often, three times, maybe four times per year, whether it needs it or not. I take care of my car engine. I know it’s a waste of money to some but I’m concerned about fuel dilution in the oil driving about 1 to 2000 miles per year.

wats 'straight from the factory' doing in your sentence?

like someone saying taking a dump straight into the toilet.. why would someone include that? why would you NOT take a dump into a toilet?

Change the oil. Follow the MM or once a year. Which ever comes first.
