2016 One Year Report
2016 One Year Report
Hi, have used this forum before to research...So just making a quick report on a 2016 LX I bought 13 months ago, for anyone who may search for this year in a used car. As of now, has ~68k on it, almost all for work.
Cons
-Plasticy feel and sound from hatch door handle/trim
-Some small buzzing noises from cheap interior trim (door and steering wheel phone controls)
-Driver's front strut started making noise in the 30k range (bad roads here)
-TPMS light gives the occasional prescribed false positive
-Road noise and stereo are predictably atrocious
Goods
-Can hold a lawnmower or a door or lots of stock
-Runs good, takes a beating
-Tranny fluid changed at 60k, I was told it looked the same as new fluid
-Front pads replaced, rotors turned at 65k, only cost $200 for that, not bad
-Averaged 40 mpg with the crappy Firestone FR740s, replaced those at 40k, General Altimax winter and now General Altimax all seasons run fine, mileage runs mid 30s for those
-No major issues of any kind yet

I still don't understand the incessant whining about the volume knob. There are volume controls right on the steering wheel. Much easier and safer than taking your eyes off the road to fish for a volume knob.
This is the LX model, it has a volume knob. I was simply referring to the typical bad speakers and the cheap head unit. All functional, just cheap, as expected.
I agree. That's why I asked for a response aside from the volume knob issue, because that doesn't matter to me.
LX Interior wise, it is pretty good for the price point of the vehicle. Much nicer than my old 96 Neon Engineering wise, it is a big step back from the Durable EK/EGs of the late 90's. This 3rd gen model will not last as long as the previous Honda products.
I do like having the volume button on the steering wheel and on the console as it is a lot more accurate then the touch screen, and sometimes my right hand is free so I can turn the volume down without having to look at the screen.
Sound wise, it is pretty good for OEM. You get what you pay for.

i drive my wife's GK on the weekends and the stereo does not bother me at all. it's not the best sounding, but ive heard some pretty bad stereo's on the rentals i drive during biz trips so i know what BAD is.. lol.
GK's stereo is fine for this car.

Agreed. It's better than most econo rentals I've heard.
Yes, road noise is bad on most roads. I'm waiting for my oem tires to wear out so I can put on Michelin Defenders - but these tires just won't wear out! 35,000 (hwy) miles and the tread is hardly worn.
I still don't understand the incessant whining about people who want a volume knob. Nobody has to "[take your] eyes off the road to fish for" a knob any more than they have to "[take your] eyes off the road" to fish for two different controls on the steering wheel, in order to use controls that respond slower than the volume knob.
Agreed. I was a whiner at first because I was trying to control the radio from the touch screen. As soon as I transitioned completely to the steering wheel control, I actually prefer it. Now I find myself pressing the steering wheel in my 2000 Caravan to manage the radio. It's not helpful to have a new car and an old car at the same time.
My 2017 LX with CVT, with 5400 miles on the ODO. I bought the car for it is, an inexpensive economy car. My reason of purchasing this car is to get great gas mileage, and lots of room to carry loads. A great car for that. My stereo has knobs, nothing bad about them at all. Just completed a 660 mile RT from Houston to Dallas, plus some city street driving. No passengers, light load, AC used sparingly. Here is my findings:
Pro:
46 mpg open highway with cruise control set at 60 mph.
30 mpg strictly in town driving.
Lots of room for carry camera equipment. Tailgate opens high for access.
Stereo acceptable with music coming from old iPod connected via USB port.
Stable against head wind. Solid suspension gives confident feeling of the roads
Con:
Firestone tires very noisy even on smooth surfaces
Driver's seat extremely uncomfortable for long trips
Some wind noise entered into inside cabin
Noisy suspension in dynamic handling situations
Acceleration. Barely adequate. 6 spd manual may be a bit more fun it you like to shift.
Final assessment: A great car for the price for features and quality, inexpensive to operate, and hopefully reliable to get from A to B

Less than one year experience here.
But so far my two biggest tangible complaints would be:
TPMS system: I can't go on a long drive without it giving a false warning. So far any drive greater than 150 miles has resulted in the light coming on.
Wiper Blades: Just not the greatest. OEM dragged horribly. Changed to BOSCH, helped quite a bit, but still not perfect.
Seems to me like the Drivers side Blade is just too big.
Both these complaints? I can live with.

is your wiper blade hopping? some glass cleaners are the cause of this.
a quick application of sealant will do wonders. i use a spray on type sealant called Prima Hydro, but you can find off the shelf (meguiar's) polyer-based apply as you dry products. also rain-x works too.
my GTI's factory blades hop the glass terribly without sealant.
