2017 EX/LX Pricing OTD. Should I do it?
Been negotiating with my local dealer in San Diego. Got the following OTD prices, let me know if you think these are reasonable. Leaning toward the EX and would like to buy it tomorrow. Told myself I would sleep on it. Let me know what you think!
2017 EX: $19,470 OTD
2017 LX: $14,749 OTD
2017 EX: $19,470 OTD
2017 LX: $14,749 OTD

You really have not told us what you want in a car. Do you like luxury? Did you try the touch screen in the EX? Are you going CVT or manual shift? Did you test drive the car? What were your impressions?

I think the value and features of the EX are easily worth the extra coin when you consider you get:
- fog lights
- better engine control with paddle shifters instead of just 'L'
- aluminum wheels (you don't need the steelies for snow in socal!)
- push button start and smart entry - you can truly just leave the key in your pocket and never touch it - super convenient
- better soundproofing
- floor mats
- Sunroof - the added flow through ventilation without running the fan is really nice
- cargo area tie downs - I use these to secure some empty cargo boxes for groceries, etc - see my mod thread for details

I'm not sure we're using the same meaning for OTD. In Ohio, tax and destination charge on my 17 EX 6MT were over $2K. So I thought my $19.8K OTD cost was an OK deal.

Yes out the door. My car was $17,300. It had been sitting on the lot (they weren't getting any customers for the 6 spd fit) so a few days of negotiating we got down to 17.3k OTD from the original 19.2 they asked for. Even got 6 free oil changes.

$17300 - $800 dest charge - 4.75% NC sales tax = a vehicle price of $15750
Probably even less than that, most NC county sales tax rates are closer to 7%
Wow. Over $2000 under invoice. Car must have been sitting on the lot a very, very, very long time.

So, back of the envelope calculation time

right now honda has a lot of fit inventory so should be able to sell you at or near invoice if 2017 model.. like under 19K OTD probably.

honestly ur EX price is high. that's about wat i paid cash when i bought the wife's EX in 2015.. it was the first 2016 the dealer received and fits were selling like hot cakes back then.

Unless you also live in Cali it's tough to make this comparison. Inventory levels and sales patterns vary from region to region. State sales tax on cars in California runs between 7.5% and 10% depending on where you live. Given the current 18K MSRP + 875 delivery + 7.5% tax (that's 20.2K for the math challenged), 19.5K OTD is a fair amount below MSRP.

Citation needed.
At least in NE Ohio, at the 11 Honda dealers I have personally visited, 2017 EX 6MT models are in short supply.
And here's the actual numbers you're playing with for a 2017 EX 6MT
MSRP $18,000
Invoice Price $17,518
Destination Fee $875
Holdback $360
Regional Advertising Fee $175 (I leave this out of calculations, cause it can vary by region and by month in the model year)
So, given my counties 8.25% sales tax, about the very best OTD price I could expect is (17518 - 360) * 1.0825 + 875 = $19450. And really you should also throw in $50 for title fees as well. This assumes no trade that would lower your tax bill and and no special financing deals / cash incentives.
Now I know that most dealerships don't make money off new car sales, but in 45 years of buying new cars I haven't encountered too many dealers willing to consistently sell at a loss (except the dealer I buy my Corvettes from, but then again he is my dad).
I don't know the OP's tax rate but it sounds like he got a pretty fair deal / didn't leave too much money on the table.

I would assume that a lot of the limited Fit production in Mexico is being sold locally since it's all manual transmission, and MT would be in high demand locally in Mexico. The local Mexico demand probably limits how many MTs are available for export to USA/Canada which would be why there's few seen on dealer lots up here. Well, that and the fact that USA/Canada dealers probably don't care for MT because they know the overwhelming majority of customers walking in the door want the CVT.

I paid 18.2 for my 2015 EX 6 speed.
Worth every penny. My friend got an EX-L with EVERYTHING included and it was just over 20 grand here in Southern California. Her's was also a 2015.
Those prices seem pretty much the norm. I love my car so much I probably would have paid 19 for it.
