This part is lovingly made by dedicated craftsmen and precision machinery in an exotic far off country to meet the exacting needs of your fine automobile. I don't understand how you can quibble over the trifling price Honda seeks for such a masterpiece of design, materials and space age technology.

You must realize that making the plastic shield attachment system so wimpy that the shield falls off, then charging so much to replace it is the way Honda ensures adequate revenue from replacement parts sales. After all, Hondas are so reliable and last forever, how else are they to make money?

I am not sure the shield's intent is for the engine to avoid getting wet, so, definitely it should not be called a splash guard. It is probably designed to reduce aerodynamic drag, streamline the air flow under the chassis. My reasoning for not replacing it after my first oil change is because it would be a PITA having to deal with it every time I change the oil and filter. How effective is that shield? Probably as effective as a Fit having an adjustable rear wing.

On the GD it definitely keeps the AC clutch dry "enough" in the rain,,, (Oregon fit here...) Without it the ac clutch on mine shrieks when engaged the first time or two on my commute.
I got mine online for about 40 bucks ,, its a cheap knockoff,, (Yea I know cheaper than,,, ) Dont remember if it was amazon or ebay...

I previously had a VW TDI (I now hear it from blocks away as my neighbor, the new owner drives) and there was an aluminum replacement for its shield. But after my car passed 200,000 miles the shield came loose and we just discarded it.
Didn't someone find a way to drain oil w/o taking off the shield every time?

I got quoted a price of $600 for the splash shield and I think it is messed up from the oil change. Now they say it is not covered under warranty. It was funny that I apologized since I thought I might of said something in anger. So they are offering free oil change or free gas. I thought it was funny. They could not get the price down enough for me to get the part fixed.
