I just bought a 2017 Fit LX CVT that I have under 500 miles on and have noticed an odd hesitation when accelerating from a stop or low speed. ECO mode is off and I am fairly conservative on the pedal, but I notice the car hangs at ~2000 RPMs for a few seconds before increasing further during acceleration. I saw the same when accelerating harder on an entrance ramp as well. Is this possibly something that is part of the LX having better MPG that restricts RPMs or is it abnormal and should be corrected. I had test driven an EX that I don’t recall noticing this hesitation on. It is a commuter car so I went for an LX and didn’t get a chance to drive it first since it was harder to track down.

 

After reading your post, I went out to test it because maybe it's just something I haven't noticed. I tried repeatedly, but cannot duplicate what you mentioned even with ECO mode on. I'll see if there's any difference in the morning when its cold.

 

My EX does this, and has forever. Sometimes I use the paddle to downshift, but usually it's very brief.

 

I went out and tried to see if I could do anything different that would not create the issue including driving with the AC on or off and adjusting how I used the pedal. I rarely would drive like this, but accelerating with the pedal rapidly pushed in from a stop will not show this problem. It seems that if I am evenly pushing in the pedal is when it wants to hold at 2000 RPMs for short times. It might be a combination of how I drive and nature of this CVT. I had a Sentra with CVT prior to the Fit and it was very smooth with my driving style.

 

I thought the drivetrain was the same between the LX and EX, and any mileage difference would be from the extra weight, especially the heavier wheels?

 

I have a 2017 LX with CVT as well. I have not noticed any delays at any RPM upon acceleration besides the droning noise. The better mpg spec comes from the CVT over the manual trans, not any extra weight the EX might be carrying that affects mpg between the LX and EX models.

 

I don't know if there was any truth to a theory I read that the LX had some adjustments to the CVT programming over just the weight cuts vs. the EX. It is the same drivetrain though.
It would not make any sense for Honda to have software modifications for the LX, so I doubt there was much base for it, but figured it was worth mentioning.

 

My new 2017 CVT EX tries really hard to keep the revs under 3k. It's obviously tuned for efficiency. I have to give it some throttle in order to coax it above that. Under normal driving, between 2k and 2.5k are where the the revs like to sit. I'm guessing what you're describing is the same thing and it's just the way the car is tuned.

 

Okay did my commute this morning and still didn't get any hesitation during acceleration onto the freeway. As in my previous post, I can't duplicate what you are experiencing with my LX whether in hot or cold weather, fast or slow acceleration, A/C on or off, and just plain old regular driving. It was fun though.
