Oil Drain Gaskets

I just found these oil drain gaskets on Amazon - $0.16 each. Not a bad price. With two Fits, they should last me a long time.

I haven't changed one of those in years. Use a vacuum oil removal pump through the dipstick tube, makes the whole process much cleaner and faster. I'm probably leaving a small amount of old oil in there each time, but I doubt it's enough to matter.

This is actually the one thing I miss about my last car vs the Fit- the Jetta had an oil filter accessed at the top of the engine. Didn't have to jack the car up, and it was a cartridge in a metal housing rather than a can type filter, so I could just let it drain into the housing and vacuum the oil out.

The downside was everything else that went wrong with the Jetta.

Two cars, seventeen years each. That's a lot of oil changes.

hahaha!! sounds like you're now burdened to keep the cars until you use up all the washers and push-tabs.
i usually buy factory filters from the stores sponsoring this site and they usually include a free washer with the filter.

That's the plan. Use up all the parts and the cars at the same time. : )

I've bought oil filters online and they've included the washer. I've reused washers a few times and no drips either.

as long as the washer is not corroded you can reuse it. ive done it too, not on the Fit as the silver gaskets tend to rust after salty winter and the stores usually include a free one with the oil filter anyway..

In the past, I've seldom replaced those gaskets, and I've had no problems. For that low price, I couldn't resist.

I just replace them. They are cheap enough and with the Longer change interval, its just a piece of mind.

Not a bad idea to change those. Are they a crush washer? I know those need to be changed every time or you'll have a drip.

I've not changed the oil on my son's FIT yet. With luck he'll have the local dealer do it for him.

They're not the traditional crush washer - just a thick piece of aluminum. I'm going to save the old ones and turn them in for cash at the metal collector. : )

Yes they are Aluminum and can only be crushed to a certain extent. I would just change them.

Its a great idea to turn them to the recycler for $$$ :P

actually my nissans in the past ran actual crush washers and those too were okay to reuse. not that i wanted to, i couldn't find a local store with them so decided to just reuse it since it was in good condition. no leaks.

but if u have new ones, use them.
