Bad Door Lock

The interior button on the driver's armrest that's supposed to lock all the doors, doesn't. It makes the regular clicking noise at the doors, but the driver's door remains unlocked. I can lock it using the button on the outside door handles, though. The warranty expired two and a half months ago. Without a shop manual, it will be sheer guesswork trying to fix it, and I'm certainly not bringing it to the dealer.

A, in the scheme of things, minor post-warranty annoyance. Wouldn't bother me enough to bother, ymmv

did you have a recall for the door handles and have the interior brackets replaced ? i did and about 4 moths later one loosened!..pOSSIBLY that may have something to do with it...you can take a flashlite and peer into the door from outside (its akquard and limited vision)

its not THAT hard to take off the door panel (never done it) but its PROBABLY in the door somewhere.

re-reading your post....your right, it might NOT be in the door.

Honda named in class action over defective door locking systems in 2007-2011 Honda CR-V vehicles | Got a Class Action?
I replaced all the speakers, including those in the doors. I also removed the panels to install sound-deadening material, but I'd rather not take the doors apart if I don't have to.

It's a strange problem, and it seems to be intermittent. Unless I leave the key fob away from the car, I can't test it. Sitting inside the car, when I push on the Lock button, the door locks, and I can see the locking lever in the interior door handle move. This will take a lot of experimenting.

I'm almost glad it's out of warranty, because it took 18 months to get the defective radio replaced.

I know it's not fun to take the door panels off - I replaced all four speakers too - but I'm wondering if maybe there's an issue with those white plastic wire connectors not plugged in all the way. Long shot, I know, but if it were me, my OCD wouldn't let me not check it out.

You sure this isn't a safety feature so you don't accidentally lock your doors and not have the fob?

Dating back to the '70's Honda has had weird stuff with the drivers door lock. On my '80 Prelude, you had to hold the door handle out when shutting the door to get it to lock. That, or lock it with the key. It was a built in extra reminder to not lock your keys in the car.

along the lines of GAFIT thoughts, and simple first, is have you checked the door switch to see it isnt jambed ? if the car thinks the door is open, maybe it doesnt lock it ?..looong shot

i have a 20015 EX canadian and there is no "button on the outside "to lock it?

i have an inside button, a fob, and a manual hole on the outside for a metal key

I know the doors won't lock if the keys are in the car, but I've always hit the button on the arm rest as I got out of the car, and all the doors locked. It's just the past few weeks I noticed that when I opened the driver's door from the outside, there was no click, so it wasn't unlocking.

One thing I suspected is that my spare fob was somewhere in the car because I haven't had it in weeks. If it was in the car, then the driver's door would never lock, and it does lock with the outside button. 'Tis a mystery.

Odd situation because the door seems to lock automatically when the car gets up to speed. At least, the manual locking button by the door handle flips to the Locked position. The button on the armrest also moves that button. This will require more study with the help of another person. I see you're in Canada, so that's probably too far for you drive to come and help me. : )
