Strange Sounds
Strange Sounds
After 5k miles and a very smooth and enjoyable ownership, my wife and I are (maybe?) experiencing our first problem with our 2017 Fit.
Between 1 to 12mph, a strange sound is coming from the bottom of the car. Its hard to describe but it sounds like a strip of light metal is scraping something in the car to the extent that it sounds like metal popcorn popping. Strangely, the sound completely disappears above 12mph.
We checked the wheels and the bottom of the car to see if some metal piece got stuck but theres nothing. And if it were the wheels, it would make noise at regular intervals as the wheels spun but the sound is very erratic.
Would anyone know what this might be?
Thanks.

Yep, sounds like what my splash guard did right after a dealer oil change recently, only much more violent. Back clips had come off completely and the guard was flapping along the ground, felt through the steering column. Might want to crawl under your vehicle and look directly underneath the engine.
yah, i dont worry about wat the dealer says. i do my own oil changes and when i did the GK for its 2nd or 3rd coil change last weekend, i found the rear 2 plastic tabs broken.. i mean one was completely missing and the other was barely hanging with like only 2 fingers left on the tab. POS hardware i tell ya. first time in decades ive had any hardware break like this.
the screws were all tight...i mean i did the oil change last time.
i put some push rivets i had from another car. no worries now.

Well, my wife took the car to the dealer. It wasn't a splash shield but a piece of metal that got stuck between the rotors and the brakes.
I beg to differ. I checked the wheels and they were fine. If it had anything to do with the wheels, the noise should occur at regular intervals as the wheel spins. And, the noise doesn't seem like it was coming from one particular wheel -- the noise came into the cabin equally from both the driver and passenger side.
Anyway, the repair, of course, was not done under warranty and the cost was $125.
Grrrr..... >(
But thank you all for your input--I appreciate it!
