The article didn't say what year and trim version Fit. I'm wondering if it's just the versions with Hondalink / Navigation. If it's all versions, how is the info transmitted?

I'm pretty sure it's only cars that have a link such as OnStar or StarLink.

Here's a discussion about disabling StarLink.

Note how much info it collects about your car... and that you get an email if you disable it and disconnect from the mother ship.

Edit to add... I guess I need to look into HondaLink a bit more...

.

Wait until your state requires GPS-based "pay-by-the-mile" road-use taxation. This is a way for states to collect more taxes as cars get better gas mileage.

have to say I was a bit creeped out the first time I went into the infotainment system submenu and saw that there's a GPS that constantly updates location. I assumed it was related to the 'black box' and figured since there's no transmitter I'm not being tracked. But it still creeps me out.

I did that.

Looks like the app is all smartphone based when used with a Fit. However, there is a setting in the HU that lets the EDR use your paired phone to call 911 in the event of an accident.
