Which app starts when connecting to iPhone
Which app starts when connecting to iPhone
I hope this is the right place for this question. I have a 2015 Fit with the Navi package. I also have an iPhone X with the latest iOS but this question and issue goes back to when I first got my iPhone 6+.
When I jump in the car and drive off, the Fit will find and connect via bluetooth to my iPhone and then start to play something. It is not the last application that was playing when I turned off the car if there has been any significant time between the two. i.e. I come home at night listening to a podcast. In the morning, when I jump in the car to go to work, it will pick Music.
Originally, the issue was like I just stated -- it would always pick music even if I had just been listening to a podcast or an audio book (which is a different app). But a few months back, "it" changed its mind and it would always play a podcast rather than music. "it" I mostly assumed was the iPhone but now I'm starting to believe "it" is the Fit that is picking the app. Here's why...
I had tried all sorts of experiments like a soft reset of the iPhone or picking what to play via the Fit's console, etc. Nothing I thought of worked. The past few months, it would always start playing podcasts when I first started up my car.
The awkward work around was to start listening to whatever I wanted to listen to before connecting to the car. At that point, it would just continue playing what I had originally selected.
The experiment I did was to dig out my old iPhone 6+ and connect it up to the Fit via bluetooth. I played around with the Fit and the iPhone 6+ a bit and eventually noticed that when it first connected, it would play Music. I switched back to the iPhone X and lo and behold, now it too picks Music when I first connect. So, I'm starting to believe that it is a Fit issue and not an iOS / iPhone issue.
Questions:
1) Off topic slightly but is there a way to soft reset the Navi system (or whatever is connecting via bluetooth to the phone)? I thought it might be worth experimenting with. Plus, a few months back, the Navi system crashed while I was driving and rebooted itself. This may or may not have been when it decided to always start playing podcasts when it first connects but it is roughly the same time frame for sure.
2) Is there a way to tell the Fit (or the iPhone if indeed it is the phone that is making the choice) which app to pick when first connecting? How do others cope with this issue? My listening is mostly music with some podcasts and audio books mixed it. Utopia would be if it just started up the same app that was playing when I shut off the car the night before.
Thank you for your time,
Perry

i dont have nav in the GE and i dont have the answer to your exact questions.. but here is a thought.
my cars with carplay will not play where it left off if i unplug the phone after shut down. it will launch the apple music app and play songs in random the next time i plug it in. so even if u did figure this out, unless you keep your phone in the car and not touch anything while you have it inside the house or watever, it's probably (maybe?) going to launch the music app and play random songs.
so in ure case, id might even suggest u keep an old ipod-touch or something plugged in at all times in ur car and tether cellular off ur iphone (hot spot). GL

If we take the case where it decides to play music when the car starts up and I was listening to music when I drove home, when I start to work the next day, it will start at the same place that it left off. Same song and more or less the same spot within the song. The numbering is the same.
Now... what I don't know if it plays from the particular playlist (randomly shuffled like I asked it to do) or from the whole catalog. But... I think, at least once, I've played an album straight through (not shuffled) and it did that correctly -- I think... I'll investigate this in the next few weeks.
More or less, my iPhone isn't used much as a phone nor much of anything else. Its a nice iPod with a camera and other bells and whistles but its mostly tucked away in a packet in my back pack and rarely comes up for any vitamin D sunshine... As far as music, podcasts, audio books: if I'm at home, I play them via the Mac in most cases.
Thanks for your reply...
