Remove start button cover (LX)

I have a little thermometer that I'd like to put right in the circular spot that would house the start button. Since I have an LX, it is just a cover, but i am afraid of breaking something. Can you guys help me to take the cover off safely? Thanks!

Just pry it out from the sides. You can use a butter knife or pry tool if you're worried about scratching the dash.

I took mine out when installing an aftermarket head unit, so I could route the USB cables from the back of the unit to the console without having to go through the glove box.

If you pull on the panel below the steering column, then you'll be able to reach the back of that start button cover and easily pop it out.

I just converted that cover to take a cigarette lighter socket. Someone else also did it years earlier with pictures on here.

If it helps, this is how the plug looks once removed.
I have used the space to attach the magnetic phone mount...

Thanks! I just got it out, and I like that I can put it back on if my project fails

Glad it worked out. I couldn't find the original thread about the cigarette lighter socket, so here's a picture of mine;
