Push Start Button Cover on LX

I have a cover over where the red push start button should be located, because I have an LX which comes with a standard ignition key. Has anyone used this cover for something useful? Additional 12v power outlet? Toggle switch for something? Control switch for an Ooga horn?

I use mine for the push start that came with my EX Fit....

But to answer your question, you should run a second 12v outlet to that area, it would fit nicely and you can never have too many power outlets.

I am not sure what you would add to the Fit that needs a toggle switch. Maybe additional reverse lights to use while camping or working in a dark area?

No snarky answer here. How about a hatch release? There should have been one down by the fuel tank door release and the hood release to begin with. More than a little snaking of cables and the like, but it would be handy.

New car, didn't even notice there is no hatch release from the driver's area, damn.

Kent, this is a good idea. Unfortunately the locking mechanism is in the hatch door, so you'd need to route the cable through the door near the hinges, which exists at the roof, and then somehow to the driver's area. This would be difficult to do.

Small LED to see where you insert your key: Borrowing from the American manufacturers you could add a small LED in this spot that lights up to help you see where to insert your key. Maybe not needed, as I just use my hand to feel for the key hole. Once you started the car there's no further need for a light there.

Does the LX have a key hole in the hatch to open it? For the EX w/ keyless entry/start we just have a handle that opens it. Only opens with key in hand or if the car is unlocked.

No keyhole in hatch for the LX. Hatch opens by squeezing the hatch latch when car is unlocked or you hit the remote car unlock.

OK thanks. I too thought it was odd that there wasn't an interior lever to open the hatch. There is one for the hood and gas cover. Came with all my other cars except for my 4Runner. That too had a latch in the back, but it had a keyhole as well.

One of those annoying little things I noticed on my EX about on the 2nd day. Since the gas door is unlatched from the driver's, the wiring might be parallel that if it is electrical. If it is mechanical, different set of problems.

You'll enjoy the car mostly likely, but be cautious of the flimsy hatch interior, especially around the wheel arched.

Cool! I didn;t know you could use it for other purposes I was thinking about put in a start remote when I had the money

I am not saying you should become a drug dealer and put drugs, money or arms in your vehicule my any means but I pop into this article when I read your thread

You need to get the code right( the same procedure step my step) if not it will not open. So, I here you have an idea.
