Emergency starting of EX

I ask this just because my wife's Gen Coupe had a recall on brake light switch and when her's failed, the push button ignition wouldn't start the car. You see, it didn't know she was pressing the brake pedal so pushing the button just cycled between off, acc, and on. The solution was to press and hold the start button for 10 seconds and it would start no matter if your foot was on the brake or not.

So what happens on my little Fit EX with push button start when the brake switch fails? I tried holding the button for a long time and the car never tries to start. My switch has not failed, I'm just interested to know what do if/when it ever does.

Anyone ever tinker with the push button start and know any tips or odd bits?

Assuming you have a CVT. Haven't played with this on my 6MT, as the brake pedal does not have to be depressed, but the clutch does. Can't say for sure if holding the button down will allow it to crank.

Brake light switches in general are not prone to failure.

If it did fail, you could presumably disconnect the wires from the switch and short them together to get the car to start. Of course, you'd want to replace the failed switch ASAP, both because of convenience and because of safety (you really want to have working brake lights).
