Driver side Fender and door damage on 2015 Honda Fix EX

Hi all! First time poster.

I recently bought a Certified Pre Owned 2015 Fit EX and am loving it so far.

Unfortunately, while parked on a downtown Houston street, someone hit and ran into me and did some pretty moderate damage to the driver side fender and door. I haven’t even made my first payment on the car yet! And it even still has the paper plates on it.

I’ve gotten over my anger phase and moved into acceptance.

I wanted to ask for some advice on if I should take this to a dealer to get fixed, file a claim with my insurance, pay out of pocket to keep premiums from skyrocketing, etc.

The first cursory estimate I received from a local body shop was $1186.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I hope u involved the police with this hit and run. Your insurance rate should be ok if it is no fault.

I believe, a hit and run should not cause your premium to go up. your call, out of pocket would mean the possibility of that repair to stay off the books and not show up in your vehicle history report

Did you file a police report? I don’t know about Texas, but in NY, any accident over $1000 in damages must be reported, whether you go through insurance or not. Failure to comply can cause suspension of your driver’s license.

At least that’s here.

I'll echo what others are saying about filing the police report. Your insurance premium should not go up because you are not at fault but you will be out your deductible.

And I feel your pain. Last year my daughter bought a new Yaris IA and took delivery on a Saturday. She had it for maybe 24 hours (about 200 miles on the odometer) when driving on the interstate during a storm a car in front of her hit a huge piece of debris on the road (she said it looked like part of a front end bumper) and sent it flying into the front end of the Yaris, putting a hole under the headlight of her new car and big scratches all along the pass side. It eventually got fixed and now looks great, you can't tell at all. But the horror will never fade.

I just had a similar thing happen in my 2016 EX. Although I got more door damage since the door was off kilter. $3100 later .....

Thanks for all the advice in this thread.

Ended up filing a police report and used the uninsured motorist deductible of my insurance ($250).

Repairs were just over $2000. Replaced the fender and the door.

Looks good as new now but the horror of the incident still remains etched in my memory.

Glad it worked out.
I was going to say, that from those pictures unfortunately two panels were damaged.
Not too surprised the repair reached the $2000 range. Body Shop work adds up quickly.
