Get a 2018 vs 2019 sport?
i sold my s2000 and am in the market for a fun little 5 passenger car. If I get a fit, I can pretend it’s 1995 and I have a little civic hatchback again
Is there any reason to pay a little more for a 2019 sport over a 2018? I like the new white, but that’s not worth almost $1k more to me.
Thanks!

IMO, no reason to go for the 2019 over the 2018. I do really like my 2019 Platinum Pearl White Sport, but the only reason I went with a 2019 was the limited availability of what I wanted in my area. Aside from the "new" white color I believe the 2018 and 2019 models are identical and even have the same MSRP. But as it sounds like you may be finding, dealers are much more motivated to clear out the 2018s.
I was hard over on a Sport with a CVT, but if I had been willing to go with a 6MT, I probably could have found what I wanted in a 2018. I'm sure the car is even more fun with a 6MT, but in a few years this will be our only car, and listening to the wife complain every time she drives it would not be fun...

Of course all cars are more fun with a manual, but regardless of transmission, just know you will not be buying a fast car(6MT or CVT), and you will not make it fast with mods (faster, but still not fast). In my few months of ownership I have grown to appreciate the CVT. With the paddle shifters, sport manual mode even allows me to pretend I have a 7 speed manual. From a stop light manual mode will bring the car up to speed a bit quicker, but on twisty roads, it is actually really nice. Also highway speed RPMs are much lower with the CVT. Nonetheless, if not for the wife, yes, I would have gone for a manual...
I think the story is similar, maybe slightly better, here in the DC area. Please check in and let the folks know what you finally do get.

good choice going with manual. so a 19 in the color u want or just get 18. unless worried about resale not much difference. id also consider looking at civics (if honda) as u get so much more. GL

I paid $17,5xx OTD for my 18 Sport manual here in TX. My first Fit and absolutely worth it for the fun factor and the 39-42 avg MPG.
I actually prefer the quicker steering over that of my 13 Si.

Oddly, the other car on my list is a new civic si sedan.
It’ll cost me $6k more. Much nicer, much faster, etc. I’m financially fine spending more, but I really don’t *need* that much of a car. I don’t commute and we have a Pilot for the family car. This is just a backup 5 passenger car for me.
I test drove a Fit Sport last night. Fun little car. It is much nicer than the econobox cars from 10-20 years ago.

It is much nicer but can't pretend to be as much fun. The Fit is a pretty fun car though, doesn't take it self too seriously.
I'd look at included safety equipment 2018 v 19. I read something about expanding Honda sensing availability. That is a must have if you are getting a CVT. Auto stop is something ppl a few years out will regard like air bags in 1996 ... Like why would you buy a new car and not go for it.

For something in between on price and sportiness level with the huge advantage of a hatch, how about a Civic Sport Hatchback in manual?
I think it's the best looking and value vehicle that Honda currently offers.

A month ago today I bought my first car in 16 years, the 2018 Fit Sport, 6-speed manual, Milano Red. (2002 Saturn SL 5-speed manual suffered a broken frame while driving !! and it wasn't worth the repair.) I could have gotten a 2019, but the price was right, incentives were good, it was available immediately, I liked its size for me, I bought it. I drive around town mostly, have always driven a manual, and I like my new Fit!! Other than color, I doubt that the 2019 would be that much of a different car. The Milano Red is great as I can spot my car among all the black and white ones in the parking lot. If price is to be considered, go with the 2018.

Get the color you like...
No big differences 18 vs 19... I took the 18 Sport 6mt in Modern Steel. With 19s in the lot, you have a good bargaining position - I got mine for just under $16,500 cash and carry. Drove an hour to get my color and price, well worth it. The Civic Sport hatch was the runner up, but the Fit was just a perfect fit! It’s a great little car so far, perfect family-mobile, lots of cargo space, great MPG, pretty cheap to insure. Definitely one of the least econo feeling of the econo-boxes. They managed to make a cheap car that doesn’t feel cheap AND is a fun car to drive... that’s something.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about 18 vs 19 as far as 19 being “better”... I don’t think they threw in any safety features as standard, but that’s worth a look. If there’s some Honda Sensing included in the 19’s, that may be a factor. Otherwise, get the color you want and save some money if you can. (What state are you in? Maybe we can help you get the price you want)

So jealous of you guys with inventory of fits. I'm trying to negotiate around 16k(all fees excluding TTL) for a 2018 Fit LX CVT. They're not even calling me back
