215/45/16 tires

Hello, I just got a new to me 2015 fit lx and I want to put some 16x7 wheels on it. Has anyone tried running 215/45/16 tires? Can it be done?

It could be done, but why? That is not a popular size. 205/50-16 is MUCH more common and is closer to the correct diameter for your car.

According to tiresize.com 215/45/16 is closer to my oem diameter. I have an lx with 15” wheels

You are correct! Here are the numbers...

185/60-15 - 23.7 diameter
205/50-16 - 24.1 diameter
215/45-16 - 23.6 diameter
185/55-16 - 24.0 diameter

Personally, I'd go with the popular size with lots of choices since all are pretty close.

Just wondering since I want to put an Eibach Pro Kit on it. I wasn’t sure if the extra .4” would cause rubbing. I don’t want to mess with any fender modification.

Or should I just be safe and forget the meatier width and get 195/50/16s?

How much does the Eibach kit lower the car? If its only an inch you should be ok. .4" is about 10mm which would be like running a 40 something offset wheel.

Are they all season or summer/winter tires? I go as wide as possible for my summer tire.

Wheel offset is definitely a large part of this equation. Seems that +40 on the GD rubs just a tad in the rear, but is OK with GE Fits. GK's seem to get away with +35 even.

The kit lowers it 1.2 front and 1.4 rear. I’m looking into a couple different wheels with offset ranging in between +38 to +43

What? No. A taller tire doesn't effectively change the offset.

OP:

Run a 195/50/16. You can get a nice tire in that size, it is close to OEM diameter & it isn't needlessly wide like a 215 would be.

By the way, offset is really important, so do your research and check what is doable.

I know that. I assumed he was referring to .4 wider not taller and I know it does not change the offset.

I think I might lower it and see what kind of clearance I have and go off of that. I will come back to this thread and post progress pics as things get done.

so i could get away with a 15x7.5 even?.. Asking purely for the desired fitment over all else. Also beer, this post is brought to you by beer.

Offset without rim width means nothing. Offset is the amount the the wheel is offset from the centerline of the rim. The same offset on a 6" wide wheel and 7' wide wheel will change the relationship from the wheel to the strut. As one goes wider rim width at some point the offset needs to be reduced to keep from the wheel touching the strut.

Unless someone can chime in with a gk that they’ve done Tein or Eibach springs on with 16x7 wheels and share their thoughts on tire size and fitment.

In context he's talking about the diameter of 205/45 vs 205/50.

If the offset is correct, sure.

SEARCH. There are multiple threads about wheel/tire fitment with various suspension choices.

Yeah I have, I just haven’t seen anything other than 205/50R16 unless they do fender modification
