3rd Generation GK Specific DIY: Repair & Maintenance Sub-ForumThreads discussing repairs and maintenance you can do yourself on the 3rd generation Honda Fit (GK)
Well it’s been 4 months since I started this thread. I finally got a day where no one will bug me in my shop while I do the struts, and I have nothing else to do with this whole virus going on.
Anyways...
I pulled the struts on Thursday. I replaced them with the KYB’s new lower bushings, strut bearings, and upper rebound bushings. It was incredibly easy to do on this car. The sprigs are not super strong because they are so tiny, so I didn’t have the fear and anxiety like other springs while using compressors. The bearings had a lot of play, one fell apart when removing it. The lower bushings were pretty worn in. As were the top ones. I’ll put a picture in below. As a side note the nut holding the strut together was frozen on so I cut them off. I had new ones for it.
After replacing them I was too beat to drive the Fit, plus I wasn’t getting in the car dirty lol. So... Yesterday I took it for a ride in the morning taking my wife and daughter to work. And after all the times I took it to the idiots at the dealerships(they have 2 separate ones, same owners), and telling them there’s definitely something clunking up front, to which they said their “master techs” said there were no problems. And the first thing I tried was replaced the end links, it was not them. Guess what? It rides like a nice new QUIET car. No more clunking, just normal tire noise from the roads like every car out there. It’s night and day. So the dealership I bought it from just got 2 nice reviews from me how much they suck for making it look like I was crazy or hearing things. “Nit picking”. I’m going to apply to be a master tech, because I knew there w
as a problem, whereas these other “master techs” couldn’t find a problem. Yeah of course they strung me along until the 90 day joke of a warranty expired. I spent $580 of my own money and did the work myself, but I love the way it rides now. so F Lundgren Honda of Auburn, MA, and the Greenfield one too.
Good for you. DIY when dealers give you the runaround.
Every time I hear the "inferior product" claim, I want to ask: If it's an inferior product, why did you sell it to me? Marketing 101: Never ding your own product.

My brother is the service manager at another dealership(I would have bough it there, but they had a purple one, and although it's a nice color I was determined to get silver), and when I told him what the service manager at the Greenfield store said to me about it being "get what you get", he knows him and was like wtf??? His regional manager is the same one as theirs, so I hope she sees what I wrote on Dealer rater. Or facebook. Or anywhere else I will put it out how they dropped the ball and didn't stand behind their product.
I'm pretty pissed at them, but the car is absolutely awesome to drive now. So happy with the way it drives I ordered a set of wheels today
Cool … I'm determined to get fixed whatever may go wrong on my '15 LX 6spd, this may be the last of an old school feeling Honda we'll ever see in the USDM. I love this car. My son just picked up a '19 Civic Sport, it's pretty sweet, he's pleased, but...I'll take my "entry level" Fit, thank you very much.
@ChrisA70 Would you mind listing everything that you ordered to fix this issue? I know it's been several months so hopefully you still have a record of it? My wife's 2015 LX has developed the exact same symptoms; granted she's at 82k miles and I've already changed the End Links just as you did when diagnosing.
I would say we were pretty lucky with ours as we bought it with 2 miles on the Odo right when the Fit was re-released in mid 2014 and haven't had anything major go wrong with this car. It's been a reliable little beast for us but now it's clunking too much for my liking so I'd like to try what you did to yours to hopefully get it back to the day we drove it home.
I ordered a set of new KYB struts for the front, OEM Honda front strut mount, new strut bearings(and nut), plus 2 new upper strut dampers
Haha no problem. The only thing you have to make sure is, the 2015 was made in Mexico, where my 2016 was made in Japan. So the mount parts are a little different. The struts are the same though.
