Yeah. I can go 2-3 weeks without washing the silver, and it still looks ok. My last black car....within 20 minutes, it looked dirty again. (Seriously) I would start at the front, and by the time I got to the back, it was noticeably dusty. Soured me on dark cars real fast.

I honestly tried to take pictures, but the chips are so small on the shiny hood that with just my iPhone they really weren't showing up. But believe me, I notice them in person. Granted, the average person probably wouldn't without looking for them.

On a related note, I have heard good things about Dr. Color Chip. Has anyone here personally used it and had good or bad results?

One thing that concerns me is with it being a 2015, going to the Dr. Color Chip website and trying to locate the "color code" for my 2015 blue fit, it lists it as "Vortex Blue Pearl/Cobalt Blue" when Honda calls the color for the 2015 "Aegean Blue Metallic". I am afraid Dr. Color Chip may still be using the color code from the 2nd generation blue fit...or did Honda just keep the same color and switch the name? (maybe I should post a new thread about this if I don't get answers here).

Why don't you just purchase a paint touch up pen from Honda (color code specific)?

Pens of genuine Honda touch-up paint are filled with .5 FL oz. of high quality PPG paint. - Bernardi Parts

Do these work pretty well?

get a smaller brush from art store
the pen or brush that comes from honda is difficult when touching up small chips.
apply less than what you think is necessary.
less is more

I seriously think I'd rather use Dr. Color Chip. The reviews for it are pretty stellar. I just am concerned if the color is correct or not.

Seems almost "idiot proof".

On my way to work today on a two lane highway, I got stuck behind two dump trucks that were just POURING sand out of the backs at 70mph. One truck in each lane so nobody could pass. I slowed down to get back, but even 25 car-lengths away I could hear sand hitting everywhere on my car. It was so much sand you could see it in the air like fog for a half mile.

My hood, fender, roof... all have little chips in the paint. The grill and front emblem are all pitted. I'm so upset.

I didn't even try and get plates and company names like I should have; I just wanted to get around them as quickly as I could. I don't blame this on cheap Honda paint as any car would get messed up in that situation. I DO blame the two drivers that didn't properly secure a load before getting onto a major highway, and then decided to drive in tandem to maximize the damage caused to every car behind them.

I know it's bad karma to wish ill on people, but...gah!

Dropped my car off today for an unrelated issue, and was told that the chip on the bumper of my car was caused by someone hitting it with their car. This is unlikely because its on the top of the bumper near the hatch door and if someone had hit it there would be a dent and way more damage. I was basically told to get a touch-up pen and thats all I can do about it. I showed the service guy that the paint is missing down to the metal and that the paint seems thin and not super protective and he didn't really have an answer for me besides "paint chips that's what happens". Well as I have said before, I have had many cars for several years and never had an issue with paint chipping like that even when I had my doors dinged by other cars, and even when I backed my red jetta into another car and their license plate hit the bumper...there was no paint removed at all. I also don't understand how it can be on the upper top part of the bumper, when I have had this car for 2 months and never put anything into the trunk besides groceries that never touch that area...really annoyed right now, but seems like a losing battle..I will likely just have to touch it up and maybe get the whole bumper repainted later before I trade this car for something else..

im having this same problem on mine. ive noticed i have at least 2 chips on my hood already and ive only had the car for 5k. granted im doing all highway driving with it so speeds are normally around 70. but i think this is way easier to have happen then it should be. my 94 accord had 0 paint chips on it and i ran that bad boy to 320k. getting pictures asap.

I would also like to add that my 2008 civic was warrantied from Honda for 6 or some years after the purchase date. all the 8th generation civics in black, blue, and gray were covered because the paint would just fade off around the car. and the hood and fenders had cracking clear coat referred to as "Crows Feet". Ended up getting the entire car minus the bumpers, roof, and passenger front door repainted by Honda for free.

Basically if you're seeing the problem lets post up and let them know its more widespread.

Yeah, mine has one on the back bumper than looks like that, but its black underneath to the metal. I took it to my Honda and spoke to customer service who received photos from my dealership of the damage and because (according to them) someone or something scraped it they won't do anything about it. So I will have to not care, or buy a 150 dollar sticker to stick on the bumper to insure no dings, chips or scratches happen...I had a mini for 4 years which is low to the ground and never had a chip on it..had a red jetta for 6 years and even backed into a car and no missing paint..had a green beetle no chips or paint damage after several years...I have a fit for 2 months (not even two months at the time) and pea sized section of missing paint on the rear...shame..

I noticed this last weekend when I was washing my car. This is the edge of the gas door.

Here's a close up.

Paint on the Fit has always been an issue that Honda should have made right a long time ago. I've owned several Chevy and Fords before I bought the Fit which was my first Honda and that has been my greatest disappointment with the car was the paint quality. I know people who own older Hondas (Accords, Civics) with no paint issues whatsoever. My Milano Red is not fading but going on 8 years old - starting to show its age! Same as me! LOL!

I can relate

Hi all,

I've been a fan of this forum since I bought my Fit back in August, but I just signed up to post because I'm having paint chipping problems too! I can't say when these chips first started to appear because they're small enough that you have to be really close to the car to see them. But I was hovering fairly close a few weeks ago while installing snow tires when I spotted them. There are maybe 15-20 little chips all over the hood, roof, and side panels. I was really shocked.

I took my car back to the dealer and the service manager gave me the typical run around, saying it was from road debris. My old car didn't have any chips like that after years of road debris! So I wrote a letter to Honda Customer Service with some photos, and they basically said it's not "warrantable" unless a body shop looks at it and decides it's due to a defect.

So it's likely we're stuck. Thought I'd share to add to the list of people with problems. Time to invest in some touch up paint

Just last night, I saw a HUGE series of chips/scratches right in the center of the hood It looks like a big piece of debris hit it. To add insult to injury the touch up paint I ordered is not Aegean Blue Metallic; it's New Sporty Blue Metallic and I only figured that out when I filled in the chips... that part is 100% my fault as I should have read the paint bottle more carefully, but the chip seems so crazy! I feel like I would remember something that big hitting the hood...

I DO drive basically all highway miles, but still. Unfortunate.

What makes me angry is: sure, there's road debris out there. But what are the odds that we've managed to encounter such exceptionally bad road debris in the past six months to warrant these kinds of paint chips/scratches? Honda will try to blame our driving and highway conditions, but the real problem is that their product is not built to meet a basic quality standard to prevent paint chipping while driving. Unless "driving" means going 35 mph on empty, pristine roads free of dust and gravel shoulders, that is.

I've decided to try to share my problems on popular car review sites, so that at least potential buyers have a little more information to work with. Maybe by getting the word out, Honda will actually take the matter more seriously.

I contacted my dealer yesterday about the very few less than satisfactory things with my Fit, the picture above being one of the things. So we'll see what their response is.
