Wi-fi Connetion to 2018

To get this out of the way... Yes, I know my iPhone is superior in speed and ease of use. I want to use the head unit just on principle. I paid for the option and it would be nice to have it work....

1. I connect the car to my wireless hot-spot (iPhone 7+) It will work just fine.
2. I get in the car a second time with the expectation the car will find the hot-spot and it does not. Is this something I should not expect to work when I get in the car?
3. To get the car to find the hot-spot I have to tell it to forget it's existing hot-spot option when it fails to connect. Then start fresh as if it's the first time I've ever connected.

Is this wi-fi just junk that Honda never should have taken to market? Is there a chance the hot-spot issue is on the hot-spot side?

Currently it just feels like a clunky gimmick that has no hope.

Perfect world: I could go out to my car and eat my lunch with the windows rolled down, watching a youtube channel on my dashboard with better than smartphone sound quality.

Any thoughts? Anyone cussed this thing like me?

Thanks!

Your iPhone setting might be set to not re-grant access to your WiFi Hotspot.

Can you try another phone/hotspot just to eliminate that variable?

After making my post I felt guilty for not doing a complete reboot of my phones network settings. This has now been done and I'll try again after work. I wanted to avoid this because it kicks every wi-fi and bluetooth password out of my life. My house, friends houses, workshops, bars, etc.... I went for it and I will see.

I'll beg the wife to handover her phone this afternoon if my effort from above don't pay off.

To anyone that may know? Can you confirm that your car connects to Wi-fi each time you get in? I guess I want to make sure I don't have some false sense of how it should behave. It does seem phone-hotspot related though, since the car wont connect to the phone upon reentry. The phone is on the list of devices but shows zero reception.

Thanks for the nudge, I'll report back.

I know that at least the 2018 and up can connect to wi-fi and the browser works okay. It's best to set things like youtube and google to the bookmarks just to save time typing. Youtube streams nicely and I can watch the mornings news that is only a few hours old. Or if a youtube channel I subscribe to puts out something new, it's a nice way to kill some time and motivate me to not drive somewhere for fast food. LOL. The 2018+ do not have the HDMI input that the previous EX(L) cars had, but they did get CarPlay. I actually don't know if the wi-fi connection was new for 2018 so I can't speak for that.
